Russian President Vladimir Putin has not yet announced his participation in the upcoming elections. As Kremlin official representative Dmitry Peskov noted , the head of state has not yet made a decision on nominating his candidacy. In September it was reported that Putin would decide whether to run for another term no earlier than the end of 2023.

BBC: Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni's administration notified Beijing that it would cease participating in the BRI ahead of a deadline at the year's end.

Launched by Chinese President Xi Jinping in 2013, the BRI aims to invest an estimated $1tn (£794bn; 925bn euros) across Asia and Europe. Projects including new and upgraded railways and ports aim to connect China with Europe and other parts of Asia.
