Georgia's ruling party begins impeachment proceedings against country's president.

Georgia's ruling party "Georgian Dream - Democratic Georgia" is starting impeachment proceedings against President Salome Zurabishvili because of her trip to Europe, despite the government's refusal. This was stated at a briefing by party chairman Irakli Kobakhidze.

"To complete the impeachment, the support of 100 parliamentarians is required, and, accordingly, without the votes of the radical opposition, it has no prospect of execution. However, despite this, at a meeting of the political council of the party, we decided to initiate the impeachment procedure against the president," Kobakhidze said.

As he explained, Zurabishvili grossly violated the constitution, according to which the president can exercise representative functions in foreign policy only with the consent of the government. According to Kobakhidze, the president's impeachment "will expose the common agenda of the radical opposition and Salome Zurabishvili, directed against the state interests of Georgia, including obtaining candidate status" for EU membership.

The party chairman noted that Zurabishvili is trying to play a "win-win game" - on the one hand, to earn political "points" for himself, knowing that Georgia has high chances of obtaining the candidate status, and on the other, to prevent the country from obtaining the status. The Constitution of Georgia, as Kobakhidze emphasized, provides for only one effective legal mechanism in case of its violation - impeachment.

Kobakhidze specified that the signatures of the members of the parliamentary majority would be collected in the near future and the submission on the impeachment procedure would be sent to the Constitutional Court. The conclusion of the court, which by law has a month to make a decision, is expected in early October, and a vote in parliament, according to the head of the party, is expected around mid-October.

Earlier, the Presidential Administration of Georgia announced Zurabishvili's planned visit to Europe to hold meetings with European leaders in support of the republic's obtaining EU candidate status at the end of the year. The day before, Zourabishvili met in Berlin with German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier. On Friday, she is scheduled to meet in Brussels with the head of the European Council, Charles Michel. The Georgian government said it had previously denied Zurabishvili in writing her travel plans to various countries from August to December.

"Accommodating arms production sites in Ukraine certainly will not contribute to easing tensions and settling the conflict around Ukraine," the Russian presidential spokesman said, commenting on the plans of a British defense company to open its office in Ukraine with the final aim of producing armaments there.

Britain’s decision cannot "change the situation fundamentally," Peskov pointed out. "This also cannot in any way impact the predetermined successful fulfillment and completion of the special military operation," he stressed.

Moscow perceives London’s moves "negatively," the Kremlin press secretary said.

"And, of course, any sites for the production of armaments, especially if these armaments are used against us, will become a focus of special attention for our military," Peskov said.

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky said earlier that he had met with CEO of Britain’s largest defense company BAE Systems Charles Woodburn and announced that the British arms producer would commence its operations in Ukraine.

Study: half of the population of Germany fears the collapse of the economy.

Doubts about the course of the ruling coalition were expressed by 76% of respondents. About 55% of respondents believe that government policy weakens the country's economy, only 10% believe that it will be strengthened with the help of government measures.

Poland has begun issuing men of military age to Ukraine, reports Rzeczpospolita .
