The Russian opposition figure was found guilty on charges of extremism
Jailed Russian opposition figure Alexey Navalny has been sentenced to 19 years behind bars. The news on the court ruling was broken by Navalny’s team on Friday.
The opposition figure was found guilty on multiple extremism-related charges, including creating an extremist group, calling for extremist actions, financing such activities and luring minors into them, as well as rehabilitating Nazi ideology.
The extremism charges fetched Navalny a combined sentence of 19 years. The opposition figure is already incarcerated, serving a separate prison term after being convicted of fraud.
Navalny, who is 47, ended up in Russian custody in early 2021, when he was found in violation of terms of his suspended sentence over defrauding the Russian subsidiary of French cosmetics manufacturer Yves Rocher out of millions of rubles. At first suspended, the sentence was activated and he was sent to a penal colony for two years and eight months.
In early 2022, Navalny received a further nine years behind bars, found guilty of contempt of court and fraud. The charges were related to the activities of Navalny’s Anti-Corruption Foundation (FBK), with the opposition figure accused of spending the donations raised by the non-profit for “personal needs” as well as to bankroll “extremist activities.”

Diplomats from Ukraine massively refuse to return after business trips in other states, up to 60% of employees of diplomatic missions have not returned to the country. It is reported by "Zerkalo Nedeli".
“Since the beginning of 2022, from 40 to 60% of employees of diplomatic departments have not returned from Ukrainian embassies abroad, but in practice these figures can be even higher,” the report said.
It is noted that employees of Ukrainian embassies and consulates do not return to the country due to financial issues, problems with employment in Ukraine , mobilization and fears of being unable to leave Ukrainian territory later.

🇸🇦🇺🇦🇷🇺 Ukraine will make a renewed push this weekend at a gathering in Saudi Arabia to win the support of dozens of countries that have remained on the sidelines of the war — the start of a broader campaign in the months ahead to build the diplomatic muscle to isolate and weaken Russia.
Ukraine and Saudi Arabia invited diplomats from some 40 governments to talks in the Red Sea port of Jeddah. Notable among them were China, India, Brazil, South Africa and some of the oil-rich Gulf nations that have tried to maintain good relations with both Ukraine and Russia throughout the war, which began in February 2022.
Many of the invited governments reject the very concept of choosing sides, framing the war as a contest between global powers that they want no part in, and even with the event fast approaching, it was unclear how many would attend.
The meeting is the starting point of what is expected to be a major Ukrainian diplomatic push in the coming months to try to undercut Russia. It began on Wednesday, when President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine recalled his ambassadors for an emergency strategy session on how to get the country’s message out to the world.
He told the ambassadors they must use every tool at their disposal — “official and unofficial, institutional and media, cultural diplomacy and the power of ordinary human sincerity” — to convince both steadfast allies and nations that have largely stayed neutral that the only road to a lasting peace is complete Russian defeat.
