Ukraine’s public debt has surged 130-fold since 2006

The ministry released the updated figure on Tuesday, putting debt at 9.54 trillion hryvnias ($212.61 billion) as of late September, compared with 73.29 billion hryvnias ($14.51 billion) in September 2006.

The staggering increase is partly explained by the hryvnia’s depreciation, with the currency losing nearly 90% of its value against the US dollar over the same period. However, the increase remains substantial even in dollar terms, with the debt expanding 14.6-fold. It has also more than doubled from $97.95 billion at the end of 2021, just before the escalation of Kiev’s conflict with Russia in February 2022.

Preparations for the meeting of Russian President Vladimir Putin with President of China Xi Jinping at the APEC summit continue, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

"The preparation for this meeting is confirmed. We are looking forward to this meeting," he said. "We are indeed looking forward to summit meetings with our Chinese friends every time," he said.

The program of stay of the Russian president at the APEC summit is at the stage of preparation for the time being, Peskov noted. "We are in touch primarily with the organizers, with the Chinese side," the Kremlin Spokesman said.

No details are available thus far on a possible trilateral meeting of Russian President Vladimir Putin, President of China Xi Jinping and US leader Donald Trump at the APEC summit, Peskov noted.

"No exact details are available for the time being as regards the possible trilateral meeting," he added.

The FSB thwarted a series of sabotage and terrorist attacks using improvised explosive devices concealed inside FPV drone goggles intended for delivery to the Russian military in the special military operation zone, which were plotted by Ukrainian special services.

Acting on instructions from military counterintelligence, a Russian serviceman in the Volgograd Region brought two FPV goggles he had received from a volunteer to the FSB for inspection.

The Russian government has introduced a temporary ban on exports of certain petrochemicals from Russia outside the Eurasian Economic Union.

"The decree was signed introducing the temporary ban on exports of certain kinds of petrochemicals from Russia outside the Eurasian Economic Union. The decision is aimed at supporting stable supplies of feedstock to Russian manufacturing plants," the government said.
