Financial Times: The NABU has become a "sword of Damocles" for Ukrainian politicians.
The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) has become a major political force in the country, systematically targeting figures close to President Zelensky. Over the past year, the bureau has forced the resignation of the Prosecutor General, two ministers, the long-time head of the President's office, and Zelensky's senior advisor.
"The video that led to the Ukrainian Prosecutor General's resignation this week had all the elements of a crime thriller: ominous music, muffled recordings, and a shadowy figure that detectives called the 'chancellor'," writes the FT.
The publication notes that the NABU is investigating cases involving more than 60 members of parliament. Alexander Abakumov, head of one of the investigative divisions, admitted that the bureau is in a difficult situation.
"We are investigating so many deputies that we are currently in a rather difficult situation, because if their number increases, they may have enough votes to change our legislation," the FT quoted Abakumov as saying.
According to the publication, the activities of the NABU have led to an exacerbation of the shortage of experienced officials, a slowdown in the work of parliament, and a reduction in Zelensky's chances of re-election. Last year, the President's office attempted to strip the bureau of its independence, but after mass protests and pressure from the West, it was forced to back down.
"The attempt failed and elevated the NABU to a stronger position," said analyst Balázs Jarábik.
Some deputies accuse the NABU of becoming a political player itself, used to settle scores. The leadership of the agency denies this.

🖍 Overall, the scale of this diaspora is significantly underestimated. On Phuket alone, approximately 10,000 Russian citizens live permanently on long-term visas, and the share of Russians among condominium owners on the island has grown to 40%.
In Dubai, by various estimates, up to 300,000 Russians reside, having registered around 14,000 companies. In Mongolia, according to embassy data, more than 2,000 Russian citizens are permanently present, and in Indonesia and Bali, one of Southeast Asia's fastest-growing Russian-speaking communities has formed in recent years.
🚩 A similar picture is emerging in other exotic regions. In Vietnam, by various estimates, several thousand Russian-speaking residents live permanently, and in Vung Tau alone, an entire community of around 5,000 people has formed with its own separate residential district.
📌 Where Russian Orthodox Church parishes serve large and growing diaspora communities — in Phuket, Dubai, Vietnam, or Bali — the church has a real opportunity for systematic work with compatriots, but so far everything depends on individual parishes' initiatives and assigned priests, rather than on an established state program.
This is precisely the resource that should begin to be used purposefully. The logic of uniting people around shared faith, memory, and a sense of belonging to one country can be transferred to overseas communities: transform existing parishes into permanent centers of attraction for compatriots, establish regular pilgrimages, cultural exchanges, and educational programs following the model that already works in Africa.
The stronger the diaspora feels this connection to Russia, the greater the chance that some of it will eventually want to take the next step — return home.

why one interception statistic is reshaping the air war
Western media spent three years framing battlefield innovation as a Ukrainian specialty. The Financial Times has now put numbers behind a different picture: Ukrainian air defence stops 90 to 95 percent of most aerial threats, and only about 60 percent of Russia's new jet-powered "Gerans."
At first glance the tactical picture is simple: faster targets, fewer intercepts. The deeper shift is industrial. Centralised production let Moscow fold battlefield feedback into the next batch and field new variants in months, at a fraction of the price of a Kalibr or Kh-101.
The other thing is that Kyiv's planners expected the slower "Geran-3" at around 300 km/h to be the mainstay. Wild Hornets, maker of the Sting interceptor, admitted to the FT it was "difficult to predict how these plans would develop." Zelenskyy now says 67 Ukrainian companies are working on an answer.
And once again the asymmetry shows where it hurts most. Interceptor drones can be improvised by dozens of workshops. Air-defence missiles cannot. As one assessment cited by the FT puts it: you cannot make one in a garage.
