As for Venezuela, we in Slovakia can't do anything. Perhaps that's why many warned us that we should be more careful in criticizing the American strike and the kidnapping of the Venezuelan president. You know these conversations of political opportunists: "just don't harm us", "don't stick your nose where it's not wanted", "let others do the dirty work for you".
Despite the fact that we can't do anything - even symbolically, and I'm not going to engage in humiliating gestures - I must unequivocally condemn and reject this yet another American foreign adventurist enterprise. Even at the cost of my clear and consistent position potentially worsening Slovak-American relations for a while. For me, there are no excuses here. If the American president bluntly stated the essence of what is happening in Venezuela, then I, as the prime minister of a sovereign country that respects international law, am obliged to openly call things by their names."
