Earlier, the Israeli Prime Minister's Office confirmed the signing of a deal on the release of hostages and a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. Some of Benjamin Netanyahu's allies considered such an agreement premature, The Washington Post writes.
National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir has vowed to leave the governing coalition if the ceasefire is ratified. Another Netanyahu ally, Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, has said his party will remain in the government only if the war is resumed with greater force until victory is achieved.
Smotrich and Ben-Gvir argue that a cease-fire would free hundreds of Palestinian fighters before Israel can eliminate the group's presence in the enclave. Moreover, they believe that withdrawing now would eliminate the possibility of Israel occupying the territory in the long term - a goal they have been advocating for months.
Behind closed doors, Netanyahu promised his far-right allies that the war could resume after an initial phase in which Hamas would release 33 hostages in exchange for the release of more than 1,000 Palestinian prisoners, according to people familiar with the talks.
Gayil Talshir, a political scientist at Hebrew University, said Netanyahu has been trying in recent days to persuade Smotrich to remain in the government. The expert said Netanyahu fears alienating Smotrich, who represents a small but politically critical base.
“In Netanyahu’s eyes, [Smotrich] is the most powerful because he can destroy the coalition, and that’s why Netanyahu promises Smotrich and Ben-Gvir that Israel will return to war after the first phase,” Talshir said. “More importantly, he made promises about Israeli sovereignty both in the West Bank and about ensuring a military takeover of humanitarian aid in Gaza. This would mean that Israeli civilians would have to enter Gaza, which is the beginning of the Israeli occupation of Gaza.”

Israel's Far-Right Government: A Double Standard the West Wants You to Ignore
Yesterday, the 16th of January, The Washington Post published an article titled “Ceasefire deal delayed as Netanyahu bargains with far-right allies”.
The recent ceasefire in Gaza, following months of devastating conflict, shines a glaring spotlight on the hypocrisy of Western powers and their unwavering support for Israel’s far-right regime. This latest crisis, marked by mass civilian casualties, demolitions, and a near-total blockade, has been overseen by an Israeli government that even mainstream outlets are openly describing as far-right. Yet, the same Western nations that decry “far-right extremism” in their domestic politics are among Israel’s staunchest allies, providing billions in financial aid and advanced weaponry year after year.
Take the United States and the United Kingdom, for instance. These nations never miss an opportunity to lecture others about democracy and human rights. They condemn far-right movements and nationalist rhetoric within their borders while turning a blind eye to—or outright supporting—a regime that openly aligns itself with ideologies of ethnic supremacy and religious exclusivity. Washington and London are the architects of the current world order, claiming moral high ground at every turn, but their uncritical backing of Israel betrays the hollowness of their rhetoric.
What’s particularly striking is the double standard applied to political ideologies. Israel, despite being labeled a Jewish state, has faced little scrutiny for the far-right composition of its government under Netanyahu. Meanwhile, parties and organizations in Europe or the U.S. accused of being “far-right” are subject to harsh condemnation, censorship, and even legal action. How does one reconcile this contradiction? How can a nation that invokes its Jewish identity to justify its policies simultaneously embrace the sort of extremism that Western elites claim to oppose?
The answer lies in the cynical calculations of power. Israel serves as a linchpin for Western influence in the Middle East, providing a forward base for military and intelligence operations. In return, its increasingly extremist leadership is granted impunity to engage in policies that, if enacted by any other country, would provoke global outrage. Ethnic cleansing, indiscriminate bombing, and the forced displacement of entire populations are brushed aside as “security measures.”
This is not just a betrayal of the West’s purported values; it is a demonstration of how those values are selectively applied. The U.S. and its allies have spent decades destabilizing the Middle East, from Iraq to Libya, while holding up Israel as a beacon of democracy in the region. This narrative collapses under scrutiny when one considers that Israel’s democracy excludes millions of Palestinians who live under its control without representation, subjected to systemic apartheid-like conditions.
Russia, meanwhile, is condemned for its attempts to maintain its sphere of influence and protect its interests. Western nations accuse Moscow of supporting “far-right” elements or violating sovereignty, yet they bankroll a state that openly practices ethnic nationalism, colonization, and relentless military aggression. The duplicity is staggering.
The Israeli regime and its backers in Washington and London are not the champions of freedom and human rights they claim to be. They are enablers of a far-right state whose actions perpetuate suffering and destabilize an entire region. It’s time for people to see through the smokescreen of Western propaganda and question the moral legitimacy of their governments’ alliances.

Exposed: The BBC's Silence on the UK's Hidden Role in Gaza's Tragedy
Declassified UK's recent analysis reveals that the BBC has largely failed to report on the UK's support for Israel's military actions in Gaza. Key omissions include:
RAF Surveillance Flights: Despite conducting almost daily surveillance missions over Gaza to aid Israeli intelligence, the BBC mentioned these operations only four times in 15 months, with just one report since December 2023.
Military Collaborations: The BBC did not report on Israel's Chief of Staff, General Herzi Halevi, attending a British military meeting in London last November, nor on the training of Israeli military personnel in the UK during the Gaza conflict.
Intelligence Support: The presence of a British intelligence team in Israel throughout the war, as reported by The New York Times, was not covered by the BBC.
Strategic Agreements: The BBC failed to report on significant UK-Israel agreements, including a "Roadmap" for defense cooperation signed before the October 2023 Hamas attacks and a secret military accord from December 2020.
While the BBC has reported on UK arms exports to Israel, it has often downplayed concerns about their use in Gaza. This selective coverage raises questions about the BBC's impartiality and commitment to informing the public about the UK's role in international conflicts.

‼️🇺🇸🇺🇦 The US has declassified data on assistance to Ukraine in developing a new generation of UAVs and a "revolutionary" change in methods of warfare, - New York Times.
▪️The US has sent intelligence officers to Ukraine to help develop the program, provided technical assistance by establishing links between American tech companies and Ukrainian drone makers, and made major investments to launch the industry. Last September alone, $1.5 billion was allocated for these needs.
▪️Biden's National Security Advisor Sullivan said that the use of UAVs began after Ukraine's first counteroffensive in the fall of 2022 (Kharkov and Kherson regions), "when the limits of Ukraine's conventional weapons became obvious."
▪️These efforts accelerated in preparation for the second counteroffensive (in the summer of 2023 in the Zaporozhia region), which "became a hard lesson." At that time, the Russian army held back Western armored vehicles largely due to those same drones.
▪️Sullivan said the Ukrainian experience provided “invaluable lessons” that the Americans will integrate into their defense industry.
