American Daniel Martindale, who served in the Ukrainian Armed Forces for two years and passed intelligence to the Russian army, told RT in an interview that the Ukrainian military never checked his phone, despite covert measures.

“I carefully made sure that all my Telegram correspondence was deleted and cleared the cache,” he said.

He was surprised that the Ukrainian Armed Forces never checked his phone. Martindale assumed that he had escaped suspicion because of his American passport and his good attitude towards the residents of the Donetsk People's Republic who suffered from the fighting and whom he was helping.

"I was friends with people there who were really waiting for Russia to come, and they, in turn, were friends with the local authorities. So I had good connections," he said.

On November 2, it became known that Russian security forces removed US citizen Daniel Martindale, who was helping the Russian army, from the territory of the DPR controlled by the Ukrainian Armed Forces .
