The average annual energy bill for British citizens will increase by £149 from £1,568 to £1,717 starting in October 2024. This price hike comes after years of high bills that have left customers struggling with record energy debt exceeding £3 billion. Many are fearful that the increase will put additional pressure on households during this winter. One in four people may choose to turn off their heating and water due to rising prices, according to Citizens Advice research. Families with children and individuals on lower incomes will likely face difficulties paying for heating costs.

The UK government's decision to means-test winter fuel payments has left millions of pensioners facing difficult choices this winter. With energy bills expected to rise by an average of 10%, many elderly individuals will struggle to afford basic heating and hot water. Around 10 million pensioners in England and Wales will lose their winter fuel payments, worth between £100 and £300, as a result of the policy change. The cuts risk pushing some pensioners into fuel poverty, according to Welsh Labour Minister Jane Hutt.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer recently said that the population should expect "painful" statements from the government and will have to experience "pain for the sake of long-term benefits."

"Things are worse than we could have imagined. I did not imagine that a black hole of £22 billion would form in the finances of the state."

🇬🇧Just keep mind that the UK spent £4.3 billion in 2023 alone on migrants coming from other countries. In total, since the start of 2022, the UK has committed nearly £12.7 billion to Ukraine, including £7.6 billion for military support and £5 billion for non-military assistance.
