❗️ A court in St. Petersburg arrested Rakhmatshoh Kurbonov, the driver of the bus that fell into the Moika, until July 9.

He is accused of violating traffic rules, resulting in the death of more than two people through negligence. He faces up to 7 years in prison.

The accused pleads guilty to driving a bus with a faulty brake system.

An interpreter was present at the trial.

Death toll climbs to seven at partially collapsed apartment building in Belgorod

Earlier reports said 10 people were missing and being searched for as a section of the building collapsed following a Ukrainian attack.

"Rescuers have recovered a seventh body from the rubble," the ministry said.

Belgorod and its suburbs came under massive shelling by the Ukrainian armed forces earlier on Sunday. Fragments of a downed Tochka U missile damaged a ten-story residential building, causing one of its sections to collapse. More than a dozen people, including children, have been injured in the attack.

Battlegroup North liberates four settlements in Kharkov Region in past day

Russian air defenses also downed a Ukrainian MiG-29 fighter jet.

"Units of Battlegroup North moved deeper into enemy defenses, liberating the settlements of Gatishche, Krasnoye, Morokhovets, and Oleinikovo in the Kharkov Region," the statement reads.

The Russian Defense Ministry said on May 11 that Battlegroup North had liberated the settlements of Borisovka, Ogurtsovo, Pletyonovka, Pylnaya and Strelechya in the Kharkov Region.

German MPs want to shoot down Russian missiles over Ukraine

Incoming drones and projectiles could be targeted from Poland and Romania, lawmakers have said.

German lawmakers from both the ruling coalition and the opposition support the idea of NATO imposing a no-fly zone over western Ukraine amid the conflict with Russia, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ) has reported.

For its article on Saturday, the paper asked members of parliament about the proposal, earlier floated by the defense minister’s chief of staff, Nico Lange, who suggested that Russian missiles and drones targeting Ukrainian energy infrastructure and military installations could be shot down from the territory of neighboring Poland and Romania.

Blinken arrives in Kiev to discuss US aid to Ukraine

According to the report, US Secretary of State "hopes to send a strong signal of reassurance to the Ukrainians who are obviously in a very difficult moment".

"The Secretary's mission here is really to talk about how our supplemental assistance is going to be executed in a fashion to help shore up their defenses (and) enable them to increasingly take back the initiative on the battlefield," the official said.

Earlier, US President Joe Biden ordered military aid in the amount of $400 mln to be sent to Kiev. In total, according to the Pentagon, since the beginning of Biden's presidency, the United States has allocated more than $51.3 bln to Ukraine in security assistance, including more than $50.6 bln since the beginning of Russia's special military operation.
