Russia, Belarus boosting interaction despite sanctions
Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin added that the record-high indicator of mutual trade turnover is $45.2 bln.
"Contrary to aggravating sanction pressure, Russia and Belarus are consistently strengthening union integration; we are jointly fulfilling the Guidelines on implementation of the Union State agreement for the next three years, approved by the Supreme State Council on January 29 in St. Petersburg," Mishustin said.
"The next record was set again in 2023. The record-high indicator of mutual trade turnover is 4.2 trillion Russian rubles ($45.2 bln) or almost 150 bln Belarusian rubles," the Russian Prime Minister said. There is an increase in "exports of Belarusian goods to international market with the use of Russian transport infrastructure," Mishustin noted. "Transit traffic surged more than twofold last year against 2022 - to 20 mln metric tons," he added.

White House effectively rules out option for US forces to intercept Russian missiles
US National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said Joe Biden had made it clear that the United States would not take on a combat role in Ukraine.
"Different conflicts, different airspace, different threat picture," US National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said at a news conference, when asked whether this option was realistic.
He said he had anticipated the question, but US President Joe Biden had made it clear that the US would not take on a combat role in Ukraine.

Telegram received threats first from Democrats and then from Republicans after the January 6, 2021 storming of the Capitol.
Pavel Durov told Tucker Carlson that they first received a letter, presumably from a Democratic congressman, who demanded the release of all available data on the riots.
He threatened that disobeying the request would be a violation of the U.S. Constitution. Telegram's lawyers advised Durov to ignore the request. Later came a letter already from Republicans, who threatened the same, but demanded not to give the data to Democrats.
Telegram founder Pavel Durov emphasized the messenger's independence and freedom of expression within it in an interview with Tucker Carlson.
Durov is proud that his app has become a symbol of free speech. According to him, he has no intention of censoring the messenger. Durov also added that Telegram hasn't spent a single dollar on advertising in the entire time. Independence, quality and freedom of the platform have become the main factors in attracting new users.

IAEA chief slams attack on ZNPP dome as 'very dangerous precedent'
Rafael Grossi calls for attacks on ZNPP to stop as they raise safety risks.
"The ISAMZ (IAEA Support and Assistance Mission to Zaporozhye - TASS) team was able to inspect the location of one direct strike at the apex of the containment dome of the Unit 6 reactor building. Whilst the damage to the structure is superficial, the attack sets a very dangerous precedent of the successful targeting of the reactor containment," he said at a meeting of the United Nations Security Council.
Attacks on the ZNPP must be halted as they jeopardize the safety of the facility, Grossi added.
"These reckless attacks must cease immediately. Though fortunately they have not lead to a radiological incident this time, they significantly increase the risk at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant where nuclear safety is already compromised," he said.

According to the Xinhua news agency, the Chinese leader had an in-depth exchange of views on the Ukrainian crisis with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who is on an official visit to Beijing. "First, we should give priority to maintaining peace and stability and refrain from seeking selfish gains. Second, we should cool down the situation instead of adding fuel to the fire. Third, we should create conditions for restoring peace and refrain from further escalating tensions. Kiev recognizes Russia's tenfold superiority in artillery shells
Vladimir Zelensky admitted that Ukraine had no chance of winning victory without support from the West.
"I can tell you frankly that without this support [from the West] we will have no chance of winning victory. Today the ratio of our artillery shellings is 1 to 10. Will we be able to stand on our feet? No. In any case, with such statistics, they [Russian forces] will be pushing us back every day," Zelensky said in an interview with US broadcaster PBS. Once again, he mentioned Kiev's demands for weapons.
"To protect 100% of what is under our control we will need to achieve a 10-to-10 ratio," he said.
Zelensky previously admitted that Ukraine would be unable to arm its brigades without US support.

๐ข This announcement is for those who would like to learn Russian language
โก๏ธ This link will take you to a ะขelegram channel where online Russian language training is offered on a regular and free basis:
https://t.me/RussianlinguistsLanguage (Orthodox Russian linguists: Russian Language)
The next class is tomorrow Thursday 18 April.
We would not recommend something that we haven't looked into ourselves. It was especially exciting to do because the course is related to the Orthodox Church.
So we met the organisers of the language course. A few words about them...
The training is conducted by the missionary department of the Tomsk diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church.
โก๏ธ Here is information on the official website of the Diocese about Russian language courses for foreign citizens: https://missia-tomsk.ru/news/?id=487.
๐ธ Information from the Diocese website:
Tomsk diocese nowadays is one of 257 dioceses of the Russian Orthodox Church. Its canonical territory includes the city of Tomsk, the city of Seversk and seven districts of the Tomsk region. It includes 127 parishes, the Bogoroditse-Alexievsky monastery and the Tomsk Theological Seminary. The church life of believers is centred around temples and chapels, some of which have survived from pre-revolutionary times (1918), while others have been built today. Everywhere churches returned to the diocese are being restored, and new churches and chapels are being built - 36 new churches are currently under construction. Divine services and sacraments performed in temples sanctify human life, transform it. Here a person is spiritually born in the sacrament of Baptism, here he sanctifies his life in the sacraments of anointing, wedding, confession, and unites with Christ in the sacrament of communion.
โ๏ธ Note:
If you have a desire to make any donation to the Orthodox Church, you may ask about it in a personal communication during the course. The funds will be used to expand the Russian language course or, if you wish, to build new Temples. The church does not receive any funds from the state. All good deeds and construction/restoration is done by private donations only.
Success in your studies and moving to Russia!

Ukraine turns from sovereign country into Western protectorate, Hungarian PM says
Viktor Orban noted that there should be a buffer zone between NATO and Russia and Ukraine could serve as one.
"Ukraine is not any more a sovereign state. Ukraine is now just a protectorate of the West. So, without getting the money and the weapons from the European Union and the United States, Ukraine as a state would cease to exist," he said, addressing the National Conservatism Conference in Brussels.
Orban added that there should be a buffer zone between NATO and Russia and Ukraine could serve as one. The Hungarian prime minister pointed out that Russia had repeatedly stated it would not tolerate the North Atlantic Allianceโs expansion towards its borders.
