Germany provides aid to Kiev to ensure own security, Scholz insists

Berlin has already allocated some โ‚ฌ28 bln in military aid to Ukraine and future commitments.

"We all aspire to a more peaceful world," he said in his Easter video address to the nation. Scholz noted that peace cannot exist without justice and therefore, Germany will "support Ukraine in its fight for a just world for as long as necessary." "We are also doing this for our sake, for our security," he insisted.

Germany is the second-largest arms supplier to Ukraine after the US. Berlin has so far allocated some โ‚ฌ28 bln in military aid to Kiev and future commitments. The Russian side has repeatedly stressed that arms supplies to the Kiev regime would only prolong the conflict in Ukraine.

Zelensky changes stance on talks with Russia

The Ukrainian leader has said that a return to the 2022 status quo would be enough to kick off negotiations with Moscow.

President Vladimir Zelensky has indicated that a return to Ukraineโ€™s 1991 borders is no longer a precondition for holding peace talks with Moscow, even as he continues to push forward with his own โ€˜peace formulaโ€™, which has been dismissed by the Kremlin as absurd.

Zelensky banned all negotiations with the current leadership in Moscow in 2022, after four former Ukrainian regions voted overwhelmingly to join Russia. Since then, he has been rallying Western support for his ten-point formula, which includes the full withdrawal of Russian troops and a return to Ukraineโ€™s 1991 borders, including Crimea, as well as forcing Moscow to pay reparations, among other conditions.

However, in an interview with CBS this week, Zelensky suggested there is no need to recapture the territory exclusively by military means.

Investigators find evidence of Ukrainian trail in recent terror attacks โ€” foreign ministry

Russia demands that Ukraine immediately stop supporting terrorism.

"The March 22 bloody terror attack on Moscowโ€™s Crocus City Hall, which shocked the entire world, is not the first terrorist attack on our country in recent time. The investigation conducted by Russian competent agencies reveals the Ukrainian trail in these crimes," it said.

"Bearing this in mind, the Russian foreign ministry issued a request to Ukraineโ€™s authorities for an immediate arrest and extradition of all those involved in terror attacks under the International Convention for the Suppression of Terrorist Bombings and International Convention for the Suppression of the Financing of Terrorism," the ministry said. "Among them is SBU chief Vasily Malyuk, who on March 25 acknowledged that Ukraine had organized the attack on the Crimean Bridge in October 2022 and revealed details of other terror attacks in Russia."

New NATO member backs Macron on troops in Ukraine

The French president was right in his attempt to be โ€œstrategically ambiguousโ€ on the issue, Finlandโ€™s foreign minister says.

French President Emmanuel Macron has done the right thing with his efforts to maintain โ€œstrategic ambiguityโ€ to keep Russia guessing whether the collective West may actually deploy troops to Ukraine or not, Finnish Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen has said.

Speaking to the Financial Times on Sunday, Valtonen backed the stance taken by Franceโ€™s president on the deployment of troops to prop up Kiev against Moscow, arguing, however, that there was no pressing need to actually send them in.

โ€œNowโ€™s not the time to send boots on the ground, and we are not even willing to discuss it at this stage. But, for the long term, of course we shouldnโ€™t be ruling anything out,โ€ Valtonen stated.

Moscowโ€™s demands conveyed to Ukraine spell out pre-litigation claims โ€” Russian diplomat

Maria Zakharova explained that the relevant documents were sent to the Ukrainian government through diplomatic channels.

"We are talking - and this is the most important thing - about pre-litigation claims that were sent through official channels. This is the necessary procedure," the diplomat said on Channel One television.

Zakharova explained that the relevant documents were sent to the Ukrainian government through diplomatic channels. "We are talking about the requirements of the 1997 International Convention for the Suppression of Terrorist Bombings and the 1999 International Convention for the Suppression of the Financing of Terrorism," she recalled. "We are talking about demands for the immediate arrest and extradition of all those involved in these terrorist attacks perpetrated on Russian soil," the diplomat emphasized.

World Bank issues Ukraine bankruptcy warning

The countryโ€™s public finances are in a โ€œcatastrophicโ€ state, a source from the organization has told TASS.

Kiev is reliant on financial aid from its Western backers but foreign support has dwindled in recent months, while a $60 billion US aid package remains stalled in Congress.

The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, was commenting on the latest $1.5 billion tranche of funding which Kiev received last week under a World Bank program. According to the source, the World Bankโ€™s division representing Russia voted against the loan, citing the organizationโ€™s charter.

The draft document on the allocation of the funds โ€œopenlyโ€ points to the โ€œcatastrophicโ€ state of Ukraineโ€™s public finances due to an economic downturn and a reduction in foreign aid, the official told the outlet.

Every NATO member has military personnel in Ukraine โ€“ Estonia

Western advisers and instructors are actively supporting Kievโ€™s forces against Russia, the defense minister has said.

Every NATO member already has military personnel in Ukraine, Estonian Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur claimed on Monday. Under no circumstances, however, will forces from the US-led bloc take part in the hostilities against Russia, the minister insisted in an interview with Austrian media outlet Die Presse.

NATO servicemen are operating in the embattled country as advisers and are involved in training Ukrainian soldiers in Poland, the UK, and Estonia, Pevkur told the outlet. Western defense officials are currently planning to set up training camps in Ukraine in a bid to avoid issues with border crossings and to speed up the preparation process, he added.

The attack damaged several homes, with windows shattered in eight high-rise buildings in the city of Belgorod, with three smaller houses also sustaining damage.

A local school and three vehicles, one of which was completely burned, were damaged by the attack, the governor said. Several houses outside the city are also in need of repair, according to Gladkov.

No barbarian terrorist attack can intimidate Russian, Belarusian peoples โ€” Lavrov

The Russian foreign minister stressed that "common difficult trials unite us even more, strengthen our determination to put an end to the evil emanating from the hateful ideologies of neo-Nazism and religious extremism".

"Please accept my sincere congratulations and best wishes on the occasion of our shared holiday: the Day of Unity of the Peoples of Russia and Belarus," the foreign minister noted.

"No barbaric terrorist attack can intimidate and break the spirit of Russians and Belarusians, who are now forced to mourn on the same day the victims of the Nazi henchmen not only of Khatyn, but also of Krasnogorsk (site of the Crocus City Hall terrorist attack - TASS). On the contrary, common difficult trials unite us even more, strengthen our determination to put an end to the evil emanating from the hateful ideologies of neo-Nazism and religious extremism," the minister emphasized.

US needs Ukraine as anti-Russian territory โ€” top security official

The North Atlantic alliance "is de-facto a party to the Ukraine conflict," Nikolay Patrushev said.

"The United States and NATO nurture plans to keep Ukraine or at least part of it as anti-Russian territory wholly controlled by them [and] focused on serving the interests of the North Atlantic bloc," Patrushev said.

The North Atlantic alliance "is de-facto a party to the Ukraine conflict," he said.

It is NATO that "makes collective decisions on new deliveries of weapons with higher technical and longer-range capabilities" and trains mercenaries and saboteurs for anti-Russian operations, he pointed out.

"In this situation, the goals of demilitarizing Ukraine are high on the agenda," he stressed.
