The phrase "if you don't know what the product is, then you're the product is a bit misleading.

It's meant to make you believe that only free products are spying on you.

But much of today's wifi enabled tech - from Alexa to the phone in your pocket, your smart TV and dozens of other expensive products- are all collecting the same data / intel on you stealthily and sending it somewhere you never explicitly approved.

Did you know that an Alexa device was used in a murder case several years ago?

The device can respond when you say it's name because it is constantly recording.

It's been a long held secret in the marketing industry that some smart TVs listen and even video record viewers as they watch to gauge reactions to shows / commercials/ programming.

And if marketers and Silicon Valley are watching, Big Brother is as well.
