A lot of the money raised in campaigns goes to political consultants and PR specialists.
These people tell politicians what to say purely based on polling.
Not the "right way" to properly tell people about their own morals, policies, and beliefs.
Rather, these highly paid magicians teach politicians how to lie to people in order to sway public opinion.
Once in office, it's par for the course for a politician to take on a wildly different stance than what they purported on the campaign trail.
Their votes, positions, and speeches quickly revert to their actual stances- and, of course, which lobbyists are paying them.
And we've allowed it to come to this.
