Bill Kristol literally doesn't understand US history

Holy crap, this guy used to be considered one of the leading 'lights' of Conservative, Inc. And he thinks the Barbary Pirate war was about the US becoming the world's policeman.

The Barbary Pirate War happened because the Barbary pirates were attacking US ships, holding hostages and extorting ransoms.

The US actually did pay the ransoms...for awhile. But then we got a new President who decided, after the Mufti of Tripoli demanded higher tribute, to send the US Marines to Tripoli to kick his ass. Which they did. And then nobody bothered our ships. It was just a nice secondary feature that our allies benefitted also.

We project power to protect AMERICAN interests. We weren't volunteering to be the policeman of the world when the US Marines went to the shores of Tripoli. NeoCon warmongers like Kristol are at least where they really belong at this point: solidly on the Left and backing Biden's attempt to kick start a war with Russia.

Y'all, the fact checkers dismissed Trump's assertion that he was spied on so it obviously never happened.....until it was just revealed that it did, in fact, happen.

That being said, remember how we were all mocked and dismissed as 'conspiracy theorists' and guilty of spreading 'misinformation'? Turns out we were right the whole damn time.
