GIZ_Ethiopia and ENA Celebrate the Success of STEP III Project Closure Ceremony

Addis Ababa, October 22, 2024 – GIZ Ethiopia, in partnership with the Ethiopian Nurses Association (ENA), successfully celebrated the closure of the Sustainable Training and Education Programmed (STEP III) project, a year-long initiative focused on Strengthening Nursing Workforce Training in Ethiopia.

The closure ceremony, held at the Hyatt Regency Addis Ababa, was attended by key figures including Mr. Christiano from GIZ, Mr. Assiged from the Ministry of Health (MOH) and Mr. Meseret from ENA.

The event also saw participation from various healthcare providers and key stakeholders in Ethiopia’s healthcare system.

During the past year, the STEP III project made significant strides in improving nursing education and training through the provision of preceptorship training. This program enabled senior nurses to mentor and support newly graduated nurses, helping bridge the gap between theoretical education and practical clinical skills. Additionally, the project successfully developed and accredited nursing courses and logbooks, essential tools for standardizing nursing education and tracking professional development.

In recognition of ENA’s outstanding role in implementing the project, GIZ Ethiopia presented a certificate of appreciation during the ceremony. Representatives from both organizations commended the positive outcomes of the initiative and reiterated their commitment to furthering efforts to enhance the capacity of Ethiopia’s nursing workforce.

The STEP III project has laid a solid foundation for advancing nursing education and improving healthcare delivery, with lasting impacts anticipated across Ethiopia's health sector.
