#StanfordUniversity has published an index of “harmful language” that it wants to eliminate from its websites and computer code. For example, the word “#American” should be replaced with “U.S. citizen”.

Does this mean we can drop the term "African American"?

After #StanfordUniversity put out its language guide, the university immediately became the object of attack and ridicule.

But, it appears that Stanford is now walking back the placement of the word “#American“ on its language guide, which lists words and expressions the university says one should avoid.
