โญ•๏ธ #Be_like vs. #look_like

๐Ÿ”นWe use be like to talk about someoneโ€™s character or personality.

๐Ÿ”นWe use look like to talk about someoneโ€™s appearance:

โ–ถ๏ธA: Whatโ€™s your new boss like?
B: Sheโ€™s nice. Sheโ€™s very professional.

๐Ÿ‘‡
Not: Sheโ€™s like a very professional person.

โ–ถ๏ธA: What does your father look like?
B: Heโ€™s very like me but taller and older!

๐Ÿ”นCompare:

A: What is Martinaโ€™s husband like?
B: Heโ€™s really nice.
(What is his personality like?
Is he nice?)

A: What does Martinaโ€™s husband look like?
B: Heโ€™s tall, with blond hair.
(What is his appearance like?
Is he handsome?)

๐Ÿ”บWe can also use "be like" to ask for a description of places and things.

โ€“ I saw the new office building today.
โ€“ What's it like? (= What is it like?)
โ€“ It's beautiful!

โ€“ I saw the new film last night.
โ€“ What was it like?
โ€“ Pretty good!
