🎥 Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s interview with the Prensa Latina Cuban news agency (Moscow, March 30, 2023)
#SpecialMilitaryOperation
We are fighting for our country’s security, <...> for the people whom the Kiev regime declared terrorists and publicly threatened to destroy.
#Sanctions
Three-quarters of the countries around the world, primarily in Asia, Latin America, and Africa, have not joined the sanctions. They are being constantly blackmailed and threatened with severing access to funding or creating problems with the IMF or World Bank loans. I can’t even recall anything like that happening during the Cold War.
Now together with all our friends and partners we are working on new approaches to establishing supply chains, financing, and banking operations that will not depend in any way on the whims of the United States.
#RussiaEU
Europe is losing its competitive edge as a continent that has been forced to give up cheap Russian gas. It is on the verge of de-industrialisation as European businesses are fleeing to the United States. A reappraisal of everything that is going on, including in the minds of European politicians, has begun.
#RussiaCuba
The nature of our relationship is described as a strategic partnership. But this is a formal characteristic. Our relations go deeper, are rooted in people-to-people ties, in the sympathy our people feel for each other. <...> Our cooperation goes back many decades, despite sanctions and various difficulties, when our relations were hindered in every possible way. We have already developed mechanisms and the ability to achieve results, regardless of the restrictive measures imposed by the West.
#CELAC
We welcome the revival of the CELAC spirit of regional solidarity. This organisation resumed its role of a priority group which is seen by the Latin American and Caribbean countries as a key tool for advancing their collective interests as part of the emerging multipolar world.

🎙 Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov answers questions from the NTV Itogi Nedeli aka the Outcomes of the Week programme (December 24, 2023)
❓ Here is a philosophical question: Yesterday, you spoke about justice, a just solution to the crisis, a just multipolar world order, etc. Now the Global South is closely watching us. What kind of justice can we offer them? How do we make it clear to them?
💬 I think that any normal person, including politicians, immediately understands what injustice is when they see it. It is clear to them when issues are resolved fairly, based on a balance of interests and the key principle of the UN Charter, which emphasises the need to respect the sovereign equality of all states, big and small.
since the creation of the UN, the West, especially the US, has failed to comply with this key principle of sovereign equality. <...>
In this context, justice means equal rights for all states and entities established in different regions. This includes the Arab League, the Gulf Cooperation Council, the African Union, #CELAC, as well as numerous subregional institutions in Africa and Latin America. In Eurasia, we have the #EAEU, the #SCO and #ASEAN. These organisations have established close contacts, including through the Belt and Road project. <...>
❓ Why didn't you mention BRICS?
💬 I didn't mention BRICS because it is self-evident. I listed the organisations that are emerging at the regional level. #BRICS is not an organisation but an association. I don't think there is any interest in turning it into a formal organisation with a secretariat, at least not at this stage <...>
BRICS is a symbol. It represents the shared desire of a majority of countries in the world to develop their initiatives together, taking into account each other's interests on an equal basis. It serves as a future umbrella for all subregional and regional processes. <...> This is the future.
☝️ In the West, there are no organisations that have fair rules in terms of equality and genuine consensus.

🎙 Statement by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov during the UN Security Council meeting on multilateral cooperation in the interest of a more just, democratic and sustainable world order (New York, July 16, 2024)
💬 The actions of the US and its allies are hindering international cooperation and the creation of a more just world. They have taken countries and regions hostage, prevent nations from realising their sovereign rights declared in the UN Charter
<...>
I am confident that this situation can be changed if there is good will, of course. To stop the implementation of a negative scenario, we would like to propose to discuss a number of steps towards restoring trust and stabilising the international situation.
1. The root causes of the ongoing crisis in Europe should be eliminated once and for all. The conditions for restoring stable peace in Ukraine have been put forth by President of Russia Vladimir Putin.
A political and diplomatic settlement should be complemented with practical steps, to be taken in the West and the Euro-Atlantic community, to remove threats to the Russian Federation. The coordination of mutual guarantees and agreements should be based on the recognition of the new geostrategic realities on the Eurasian continent, where a continental architecture of really equal and indivisible security is taking shape. Europe risks lagging behind this objective historical process. We are ready to discuss a balance of interests.
2. The restoration of the regional and global balance of forces should be accompanied with active efforts to eliminate injustices in the global economy. There must be no monopoly in monetary and financial regulation, trade and technologies, by definition. <...>
3. Major fundamental changes are necessary in other institutes of global governance if we want them to work to the benefit of all. This primarily concerns the United Nations Organisation, which remains the embodiment of multilateralism against all the odds, with unique and universal legitimacy and universally recognised broad competencies.
An important step towards the restoration of the UN’s effectiveness would be the reconfirmation by all Member States of their commitment to the principles of the UN Charter, not selectively but in their entirety and as a whole. <...>
4. Regional associations have practical significance for the development of multipolarity, including the #CIS, the #CSTO, the #EAEU, #ASEAN, the Gulf Cooperation Council (#GCC), the Arab League, the African Union and #CELAC. <...>.

❗️It depends on member countries alone whether our world will be diverse and equitable. The Charter of our Organisation is our foothold.
