📆 On July 26, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov attended a ceremony to unveil a memorial plaque at the grave of Nikolay Girs, an outstanding Russian diplomat and foreign minister of the Russian Empire from 1882 to 1895.
Sergey Lavrov also laid flowers at the grave of Chancellor of the Russian Empire Alexander Gorchakov.
The Minister noted in his remarks that our concerted efforts helped preserve the memory of the Russian school of diplomacy and its outstanding representatives and that it is important that our citizens, above all young people, do not forget their contribution.

🌍 Накануне проведения саммита #РоссияАфрика продолжаем рассказывать о тесном сотрудничестве между нашей страной и государствами африканского континента, включая взаимодействие в сфере образования.
Советский Союз, а затем и Россия всегда оставались на передовых рубежах в вопросах подготовки высококвалифицированных кадров среди африканской молодёжи. Важнейшую роль в этом процессе продолжает играть Российский университет дружбы народов им. Патриса Лумумбы (РУДН), ведущий свою образовательную деятельность с 1960 года.
☝️ #ЭтоВажно: Патрис Лумумба — первый демократически избранный премьер-министр ДРК, символ борьбы народов Африки за независимость, сторонник развития отношений с СССР. В 1961 году был подло убит при участии западных спецслужб. Его имя было присвоено Университету дружбы народов в Москве.
🎓 Основание Университета стало следствием стремления Советского Союза оказать помощь молодым африканским государствам, столкнувшимся в результате колониального правления западных стран с целым рядом социально-экономических проблем.
Именно поэтому среди африканских студентов Университета дружбы народов наибольшей популярностью всегда пользовались специальности, связанные с развитием жизненно важных отраслей: промышленности, нефтегазового дела, строительства, электроэнергетики, сельского хозяйства, социальной сферы.
👨🏽🎓👩🏾🎓 С начала 1960-х годов в РУДН были подготовлены более 14000 дипломированных специалистов из Африки, в том числе будущие государственные лидеры, министры, послы.

Годы учёбы в Москве стали самыми лучшими и запоминающимися в моей жизни. Чем бы я ни занимался, кем бы я ни был, я всегда вспоминаю и ценю то чудесное время...
РУДН остаётся одним из ведущих государственных вузов России. В его стенах получает образование наибольшее число обучающихся в нашей стране африканцев — 2500 человек, представляющих 54 страны Африки.

🌍 With the #RussiaAfrica Summit approaching, the Foreign Ministry continues its series of publications on the close cooperation between our country & African states, this time in education.
The USSR & then Russia have invariably stayed at the forefront of efforts to train young people in Africa and enable them to become qualified, highly skilled professionals. Established in 1960, the Patrice Lumumba RUDN University continues to play an instrumental role in this process.
☝️#ImportantFact: Patrice Lumumba was the DRC’s first democratically elected Prime Minister, who came to symbolise the African people’s struggle for independence. He also championed closer ties with the USSR. In 1961 , he was killed with the involvement of Western intelligence services. The People’s Friendship University in Moscow was named after him.
🎓 The Soviet Union established RUDN University in an effort to help young African states who had to face many social and economic challenges stemming from the colonial rule by Western countries, including the need to train highly skilled professionals.
It is for this reason that degree programmes focusing on essential sectors like manufacturing, oil & gas, construction, power, agriculture, & social services were always front & centre for African students coming to study at RUDN University.
👨🏽🎓👩🏾🎓 Since the early 1960s, RUDN has trained & awarded degrees to over 14,000 African specialists. Some of them went on to become state leaders, ministers and ambassadors.
