❓: Dear Ambassador, how could you comment on the statement of the Coordinator for Strategic Communications at the National Security Council in the White House, John Kirby that within the framework of biological research in Ukraine the United States worked on pandemic prevention and did not develop any biological weapons?

💬Anatoly Antonov: The Americans do contradict themselves. If such a program was purely peaceful, then why were the works so promptly curtailed? Why are these issues handled by the military, but not the civilian specialists?

The answer is obvious: Washington had and has something to hide. This, by the way, was confirmed by J. Kirby himself, according to whom the projects were closed, and the laboratories were deactivated strictly before the special military operation started. In other words, the US did everything possible to ensure that the results of its research did not fall into the hands of the Russian military.

The Russian Defense Ministry has repeatedly pointed to the signs of the United States implementing dual-purpose programs. Moreover, the most controversial experiments are conducted outside the national territory. I will give just one example: since 2019, Washington has regarded Ukraine as a platform for experiments related to HIV infection. The target groups were made of the most vulnerable categories of the population with high risks of infection.

❗️The materials at the disposal of our Defense Ministry prove the Pentagon's focus on creating bioweapons components. As one would expect, now the Americans are actively relocating the unfinished projects from Ukraine to the countries of Central Asia and Eastern Europe. In order to divert attention, they shift the functions of the “customer” to civilian structures - the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Energy, the Agency for International Development. They obviously hope that it will help them avoid criticism and deflect the blow from the Pentagon.

However, the US administration fails to suppress public discussion. In the United States itself, various investigations have been initiated with regard to federal bioprojects, including on the gain-of-function research, and side effects of vaccination.

No matter how Washington tries to dodge, sooner or later it will have to answer questions that were raised by the Russian Federation. One should remember: any lie has an expiration date.

❓: Уважаемый Анатолий Иванович, как бы Вы прокомментировали опубликованный госдепом 31 января доклад с обвинениями в адрес России в нарушении ДСНВ?

💬А.И.Антонов: Прежде всего, обращает на себя внимание, как быстро был подготовлен этот ежегодный документ. Его предыдущие версии, не содержащие «сенсационных» обвинений, обычно публиковались в апреле, а то и позже.

В этом году, на фоне инициированной Западом оголтелой конфронтации с Россией, администрации явно не терпелось предъявить нам очередную порцию необоснованных претензий в сфере контроля над вооружениями. Причем впервые – по ДСНВ, который наша страна безукоризненно соблюдает на протяжении всех лет. В отличие, кстати, от Вашингтона, на совести которого - нелегитимный вывод более сотни стратегических вооружений из-под засчета по Договору. Подчеркну, что эти действия касаются центральных ограничений ДСНВ, подрывают ключевую цель соглашения – поддержание баланса стратегических наступательных вооружений сторон.

☝️Что касается сути обвинений относительно временного изъятия из инспекционного режима российских объектов СНВ и отложенной сессии Двусторонней консультативной комиссии, то они выдержаны в американских традициях. Здесь отказываются видеть первопричины сложившейся ситуации, перекладывая с больной головы на здоровую.
Мы неоднократно указывали Вашингтону на то, что ситуация вокруг ДСНВ – прямой результат развязанной Западом гибридной войны против нашей страны. Предупреждали, что контроль над вооружениями не может быть изолирован от геополитических реалий. В нынешних условиях считаем неоправданным, несвоевременным и неуместным приглашать американских военных на наши стратегические объекты.

При этом Россия сохраняет приверженность целям ДСНВ, продолжает считать его полезным инструментом в сфере стратегической стабильности и обеспечения предсказуемости в отношениях крупнейших ядерных держав. Намерены и далее соблюдать центральные ограничения Договора, продолжать обмен уведомлениями и соответствующими данными.

Ответственность за эскалацию ситуации вокруг ДСНВ полностью лежит на Вашингтоне. Без пересмотра Соединенными Штатами линии на нанесение нам стратегического поражения подвижки в сфере контроля над вооружениями невозможны.

❓: Dear Anatoly Ivanovich, how would you comment on the State Department’s report published on January 31, accusing Russia of failing to comply with the New START Treaty?

💬Anatoly Antonov: First of all, it is noteworthy how quickly this annual report has been prepared. Its previous versions which did not contain “sensational” accusations were usually published in April or even later.

This year, against the backdrop of a frenzied confrontation with Russia initiated by the West, the Administration has been clearly eager to throw at us yet another set of unfounded claims in the area of arms control. And for the first time ever - regarding New START which our country has been irreproachably observing for all these years. Unlike, by the way, Washington, on whose conscience lies the illegitimate removal of more than a hundred strategic weapons from the accountability under the Treaty. Let me stress that these actions concern the central limits of New START, undermining the key goal of the agreement – to maintain the balance of the parties’ strategic offensive arms.

☝️As for the substance of the accusations regarding the temporary exemption of the Russian strategic facilities from the Treaty inspection regime and the postponed session of the Bilateral Consultative Commission, they follow the traditional US pattern. Washington refuses to see the root causes of the problem, shifting the blame to others.

We have repeatedly pointed out to the Administration that the situation with New START is a direct result of the hybrid war unleashed by the West against our country. We have warned that arms control cannot be isolated from geopolitical realities. In the current circumstances we consider it unjustified, untimely and inappropriate to invite the US military to our strategic facilities.

At the same time, Russia remains committed to the goals of the New START Treaty and continues to regard it as a useful instrument for maintaining strategic stability and ensuring predictability in relations between the major nuclear powers. We intend to continue observing the central limits of the Treaty and exchanging notifications and relevant data.

Responsibility for the escalation of the New START issues lies entirely with Washington. There can be no progress on arms control without the United States reconsidering its policy of inflicting strategic defeat on Russia.

Маховик санкционной машины, «докрасна» раскрученный американскими властями, продолжает плодить многочисленные ограничения, задевая «и своих, и чужих». Первый февральский день не стал исключением - против целого ряда граждан и компаний введены жесткие рестрикции за якобы нарушения наложенных самими западниками запретов в сфере оборота военной продукции.

Впечатление таково, что авторы подобных решений не задумываются об их легитимности. А также о последствиях для других стран, в том числе партнеров и союзников США. Иначе такое широкое применение вторичных мер не объяснить. Здесь, видимо, не понимают, что во многих государствах предложения Вашингтона о сотрудничестве при одновременных угрозах давления за взаимодействие с Россией воспринимаются не иначе, как издевка.

☝️Со своей стороны, можем лишь подтвердить, что незаконные шаги американцев не достигнут заявленной цели. Российская экономика - далеко не в руинах, как некоторые на Западе надеялись. Равно как и отечественная промышленность, которая в том числе благодаря - и вопреки - экономическим барьерам все больше рассчитывает на собственные силы.

The flywheel of the sanctions machine, propelled to red heat by the U.S. authorities, continues to generate numerous restrictions with side effects for third parties. The first day of February was no exception - a number of citizens and companies were subjected to severe sanctions for allegedly violating the bans imposed by the West itself on the trade of military products.

It looks like the authors of such decisions don’t think about their legitimacy. And also about the consequences for other countries, including partners and allies of the U.S. Such a widespread use of secondary measures cannot be explained in any other way. They don’t seem to understand that many nations see Washington's proposals to cooperate accompanied by threats of punishment for interactions with Russia as a mockery.

For our part, we can only confirm that such illegal steps by the United States will not achieve the stated goal. The Russian economy remains far from being “in tatters”, as some in the West hope. The same goes with Russia’s industry, which, thanks to - and despite - all economic barriers, is increasingly relying on its own strength.

📅 #ВЭтотДень в 1943 году - ровно 8️⃣0️⃣ лет назад - завершилось одно из самых крупных и ожесточённых сражений, которое коренным образом изменило ход Великой Отечественной войны - Сталинградская битва.

2️⃣0️⃣0️⃣ дней и ночей на берегах Дона и Волги, а затем у стен Сталинграда и непосредственно в самом городе шла эта ожесточённая битва. На разных этапах с обеих сторон участвовало свыше 2 100 000 человек.

По размаху и напряжённости боевых действий Сталинградская битва превзошла все предшествующие ей сражения в мировой истории.

Третий рейх видел основными условиями для разгрома СССР :

1️⃣ Захват Кавказа с его огромными источниками нефти (там добывалось около 90% всей советской нефти);

2️⃣ Захват плодородных сельскохозяйственных районов Дона, Кубани, Северного Кавказа и Нижнего Поволжья;

3️⃣ Установление контроля над рекой Волгой.

☝️ Однако их планам не суждено было сбыться.

Сталинградская битва включает два периода:

Оборонительный – с 17 июля по 18 ноября 1942 года

Наступательный – с 19 ноября 1942 года по 2 февраля 1943 года.

🎖 Сталинградская битва завершилась блестящей победой советских вооружённых сил. Она положила начало коренному перелому не только в ходе Великой Отечественной войны, но и во всей Второй мировой войне в целом.

Под Сталинградом фашистский блок потерял четвёртую часть сил, действовавших на советско-германском фронте. Общие потери врага убитыми, ранеными, пленными и пропавшими без вести составили около 1 500 000 человек, в связи с чем в Германии впервые за годы войны был объявлен национальный траур.

❗️ Стратегическая инициатива прочно и окончательно перешла в руки Красной армии. Победа в Сталинграде создала условия для развёртывания широкого контрнаступления советских войск и изгнания захватчиков с оккупированной территории СССР.

Разгром крупнейшей группировки войск противника не только поднял международный авторитет СССР и его вооружённых сил, но и укрепил антигитлеровскую коалицию.

📅 #OnThisDay in 1943 - exactly 8️⃣0️⃣ years ago - one of the largest and fiercest battles in history, which radically changed the course of World War II, the Battle of Stalingrad was concluded.

This bitter battle lasted 2️⃣0️⃣0️⃣ days on the banks of the Don and Volga rivers, at the walls of Stalingrad, and finally in the city itself. Over 2.1 million people were part of the battle on both sides.

The Battle for Stalingrad surpassed all previous battles in world history in its scale and intensity.

It was the Third Reich's firm belief & strategic calculus that in order to defeat the USSR the Axis would need to accomplish the following:

1️⃣ Conquering the Caucasus with its vital oil reserves (some 90% of all Soviet oil was produced there);

2️⃣ Seizing fertile agricultural areas in the Don and Kuban regions, the North Caucasus and the low reaches of the Volga;

3️⃣ Establishing control over the Volga River - an important transport route.

☝️ However, their plans were not destined to come true.

The Battle of Stalingrad includes two periods:

Defensive: from July 17 to November 18, 1942

Offensive: from November 19, 1942 to February 2, 1943.

🎖 The Battle of Stalingrad ended with a historic victory by the Soviet armed forces, marking a radical turn not only in the course of the Great Patriotic War, but also in the entire World War II.

The fascist block lost a quarter of its forces on the Soviet-German front during this battle with the total losses, including the dead and wounded, prisoners of war and those who went missing, totalling around 1.5 million people. This led Germany to announce its first national day of mourning during the war.

❗️ The victory in Stalingrad created conditions enabling Soviet forces to mount a large-scale counteroffensive aimed at expelling the invaders from the Motherland.

Not only did this massive feat increase the international prestige of the USSR & the Red Army, but also helped strengthen the anti-Hitler coalition.

“In the name of the people of the United States of America, I present this scroll to the City of Stalingrad to commemorate our admiration for its gallant defenders whose courage, fortitude and devotion… will inspire forever the hearts of all free people. Their glorious victory stemmed the tide of invasion and marked the turning point in the war of the Allied Nations against the forces of aggression.”

💬Rockwell Kent , American Artist and social activist, wrote:
“As an American, I am convinced, and I think that all the peoples of the world should be convinced of this: we all owe a great debt to the Soviet people, in one word – for Stalingrad.”

⭐️ В этот день в 1945 году свыше 400 советских военнопленных совершили дерзкий побег из концлагеря #Маутхаузен в Верхней Австрии. Это восстание вошло в историю как одно из крупнейших за годы Второй мировой войны.

Наиболее многочисленными группами заключённых концлагеря были граждане СССР, Польши и Венгрии. Советских военнопленных, ранее замеченных в подпольной деятельности, содержали в самых невыносимых условиях «блоке № 20». За малейшую провинность узников избивали, нередко до смерти.

В ночь на 3 февраля 1945 года 419 заключённых «блока смерти» совершили побег. К операции по их поимке были привлечены все местные подразделения СС, вермахта, жандармерии, а также отряды добровольцев. Всего было поймано 300 человек, причём живыми только 57. Те, кого возвратили в лагерь, были зверски замучены фашистами.

Бывший заключённый Маутхаузена Н.И.Паршин после войны написал: «Узники «блока смерти» поднялись против своих палачей и вырвались из ада, устроенного фашистами на земле. Они погибли со славой, как и подобает воинам. И это не без вести пропавшие, а вечно живые герои. Память о них навсегда останется в наших сердцах».

🕯 Всего через Маутхаузен прошло 335 тысяч узников, из которых 122 тысячи были казнены, умерли от непосильного труда, изощрённых пыток и голода. В числе погибших – свыше 32 тысяч граждан нашей страны.

В числе зверски замученных нацистами был генерал-лейтенант Красной армии Д.М.Карбышев. Гитлеровцы долго пытались склонить к сотрудничеству выдающегося командующего, не знавшего равных специалиста в области фортификации, – всё тщетно. На момент гибели Дмитрию Михайловичу было 64 года.
