This reminds me of the comment made by the late great Martin Lloyd Jones, that people were being called into the ministry (in his own denomination) these day days based on human skill and not because God had actually called them. This was in the 1960s

Every day I pray that the holy spirit will come into the hearts minds and souls of the Davos/ Bank of Settlement/BlackRock types and reawaken their awareness of God and how they have been agents of Satan.

Brings me way back. I was attending Westminster Chapel in the mid-60's. Apart from his Welsh musical oratory, his spiritual inspiration was way beyond anything I can find today ; but I still wait for God's surprise.
One of ML-J's questions was, "Do you believe in a God that comes down, my friends?"

Few men preach the Gospel. Most preach a mix of law and grace which by definition means a works salvation. The sermon shared above is Gospel unadulterated. How precious Christ is to sinners saved by grace and how thankful I am for men who obediently preached/preach Christ and Christ alone. Hallelujah! What a Saviour!

Have we ever had a good, solid Archbishop?
The appointment surely has to be the ultimate poisoned chalice.

"Nothing new under the sun". I do think we forget that there has been a long time of Christian people debating the "right course" to travel.

John Waters:
“The few, who have no souls, seek to abolish the souls of the many out of jealousy, being unable to live with the idea that something so beautiful and so uncontainable could at the same time remain to them both vital and obscure. They insist on total control, to which the human soul represents the chief impediment.”

I have engaged in what i call "Direct tithing" I know it is frowned upon by some but what I do, along with loved ones is to pray that a person in need will become apparent. When they do we again pray as to whether they are the right people to offer a cash offering to. It doesn't have to be a lot but we usually work out what we would pay over each month then do that accordingly. If a situation arises where more may be required then we act accordingly.
I feel we need to be aware who the glory belongs too, so we do try to get the money to them as anon as we can. It is just an idea. I haven't done it for long just over the last 12 months or so.

Good night, all. Much talk among dear friends at present over whether we will survive. My priority isn’t surviving; none of us escapes death. My priority is being found faithful.

From one parent to others:
While I give everything I can for my children’s upbringing, welfare, and spiritual security, I know at the end of the day my love for them is a mere shadow, a little loan, of God’s love. If I care for them, my Father cares for them infinitely more. He has numbered their days as he has mine, and has destined them for glory or destruction from eternity past. I don’t worry about what they will have to face (though I labour to prepare them for it), because I know their Father whose kingdom is for the ‘little children’; who feeds birds and clothes grass; who commands me and my children not to worry under his watchful love. He has not failed me, for all my sin, and he will not fail them. He’s taught me not to fear suffering or store up earthly treasure, and the same God will be with my children when I no longer am.
Luke 12.

Alex,
Same here. In the words of Sufjan Stevens, “We’re all going to die”, the imponderables being only the timing & manner of it.
It’s how we live that matters more, imo.
I don’t expect to make it out of the far side in any case, but I’m “deeply irked” for my kids & our two grandsons, none of whom got to have a full life.
Almost no one bothered to stand up & fight, so we should anticipate the perpetrators wargamed response intensities ranging from the Full Mussolini to supine. I bet they cannot believe their luck.
Best wishes
Mike

I have wondered if the extreme vulnerability of “The West” since the late 50s hasn’t been directly due to loss of religious beliefs?
People know right & wrong. But I don’t think they can distinguish wrong from EVIL. For that, we need faith, and we’ve mostly lost it in the rush for material things.
