I have removed a post of earlier this afternoon regarding employers' responsibilities for health and safety, as a member of the channel has pointed out that the claim was wrong. I'm glad that we have quality people here and intend to make full use of their knowledge.

The correction is:
Section 3 of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 specifically states that the general duties contained therein do not apply to employees but to "persons other than employees".

Get yourselves a copy of Jacques Ellul’s The Technological System. The French original, Le Système technicien, is a year older than me. It’s the magnum opus of a lone dissident: practically the only Protestant intellectual left in France in his generation, and the only writer of his day and nation who stood up to communists, pederasts and Sartre (a communism aficionado and pederasty promoter). The Parisian scene studiedly ignored him. He pointedly stayed in his native Bordeaux all his life, attracting bright American students to his lectures on Christianity and the modern world.
The French original, Le Système technicien, was reissued a decade ago this month with a preface by Porquet which ends with the sentence, “Few resistance manuals are as instructive to read.” Just before penning the preface to this reissue, Porquet had brought out a biography of Ellul which in its title calls him “the man who foresaw it all”.
Please note that The Technological Society is the English translation of a much earlier book of Ellul’s and does not contain his mature propositions. The Technological System, the book I’m recommending, is much harder to find as an e-book in English.
