AFAIK, Merkel has a very "dark" biography: she's from the GDR, her connections with Stasi are unknown and might still come up. What is clear from observations, for many years now Merkel has supported Putin. In Russian-Ukrainian war 2014, Merkel held a very obvious position of appeasement of the aggressor. She was never interested in Ukraine becoming stronger, and her main interest was in Nord Stream. Minsk agreements were made to freeze the conflict, esp. the 2nd agreement. For Ukraine, the somewhat useful agreement was only the 1st one: the army was in terrible state due to many years of infiltration by Russian agents and it needed to be rebuild almost from scratch. But there is no doubt that Merkel and Makron wanted to freeze the conflict indefinitely. They wanted to continue their financial ventures with Russia, and if there are Ukrainian soldiers dying every month and the aggressor is not being punished, who cares?

Now, Merkel too is following her own interests, that's all. For some reason, it's useful for her to be a "Ukrainian supporter". Maybe there is a threat of the court, leaked documents of her deals with Russia, etc.? Business as usual.

> they have China

I think it's the other way around: China has Russia. China is already present in the Eastern regions of Russia, with "long-term rental". It's no secret that the Chinese want to take half of that land. Again, who gave Russia a "blessing" to invade Ukraine in 2022?

> I simply cannot see how Ukraine can win this without the rest of Europe becoming involved.

Ukraine can win, with the help of sufficient weapons. Well, sanctions as well, I suppose. But there's no need to involve EU citizens or NATO soldiers. Zaluzhny says it directly in his interview: I recommend to read it. Why do they not give weapons quickly enough, even when they have it? That's the main question. Often it's just the work of Russian agents. Like with Germany and France.

Your thesis about NATO encroaching on poor Russia and about "significant number of Ukrainians" - sounds like Russian propaganda to me. There's tons of it out there, in English too. Right now, Ukrainians are not "choosing sides" between the East and the West: they're trying to survive, and the aggressor is Russia.

My nan has potentially broken her hip and has been waiting for an ambulance in agony for 4 hours. Anyone got any tricks to speed this process up? Can you pay for private ambulance transport?

I see I’m not the only one to have analysed that line in the UNICEF campaign ad this way.

In a secularized age, with its low cognitive ceilings and lost moorings, we have turned in on ourselves. We now seek our access to reality only through the self, having decided that neither God nor His revelation is any longer pertinent.

This is to say that when we emptied our world of God and of the absolutes that had directed human life, we did not thereby open up large holes in the architecture of our inner life. Rather, we rearranged things to accommodate for these losses. We compensated for all we lost by turning within ourselves.

This is off topic, but it is Sunday so I plea the rule of Sunday channel chat. Has anyone read today's Matthew Henry (rev 7:9-10)? His commentary is really interesting, stating the jews prayed for the gentiles before Christ, the gentiles pray for the jews after. Since there are many more learned here than me, does anyone have anything to add or expand on that? It's a concept I had never considered

Children in 1966 predicting the year 2000.

Notice how they're able to put together complete sentences. Also note how they are right about the dystopia that was coming.

Fearing a resurgence of British bombast is like worrying about deck chair arrangements on the Titanic. Indigenous Britons will be a minority in their own homeland about 40 years from now. Patriots are an endangered species.

40 years? Try 4....and that's stretching it. Have you been out in a town or city lately? Stood in a school playground? My town is very small and well outside London, yet you barely hear an indigeonous voice. It's like Australia or NZ and we are now the Aboriginals/Maori's; squeezed out, culture and customs scrubbed, given easy access to booze, high suicide rates, and demoted to just an historical element of the tourism industry. Once tourism is eliminated....then what are 'we' for?
