Just as I detest braindead comparisons between Venezuela and Ukraine, it would be just as wrong to explain the US success in abducting Maduro PURELY through betrayal by Venezuelan officials, even if that almost certainly played a major role. Beyond that, and beyond sheer capability, there is the issue of, well, Resolve.
The belief that you are justified - and entitled - to do what you want to do, no matter the consequences. Americans are almost unique in how easily they manufacture this resolve, on the flimsiest grounds imaginable: "WMDs", the "Cartel of the Suns", whatever fits the moment. However, that kind of resolve is essential for success in any war.
The start of the SMO was exhilarating PRECISELY because it signaled that the Russian state had finally generated enough resolve to deal with a long-festering problem head-on. But the longer the conflict dragged on, the harder it became to sustain that resolve and to impose our own rules of the game.
That phase is now over, whether anyone likes it or not. It’s show up or shut up. The ridiculous and unnecessary kidnapping of Maduro has raised the ante globally, and it will not be possible to sit on our hands much longer.
Unlike the comparatively harmless Maduro, we face a very real enemy that is dead set on destroying us. They have names, and addresses in Kiev, and many were DIRECTLY involved for years in murders and terrorist attacks against Russia. Worse, most of them continue their "work" largely uninterrupted. 2026 will put our leadership's resolve to the ultimate test.

Sky News reports that a coordination center of the so-called "coalition of the willing" involving the US and Ukraine will be established in Paris.
Interestingly, an almost identical structure was previously deployed in Wiesbaden in the spring of 2022, a few weeks after the start of the special military operation (SMO).
It all began with the same "coordination", "assistance", and "data exchange", but ended with the Wiesbaden headquarters effectively becoming a think tank for NATO's military operations against Russia on the Ukrainian theater of operations.
"The Paris center, judging by the configuration of participants, is being established along similar lines. Its emergence indicates an attempt to institutionalize the existing interaction between European countries, the US, and Kyiv without formalizing it as a direct military presence. Such structures are convenient in that they allow centralized planning and coordination while remaining in the gray zone of formal involvement in the conflict."
The US's participation deserves special attention. Without American intelligence and command capabilities, such centers have limited practical value. Not zero, but much more modest than usual. But with American participation, it will be on a completely different scale.
