U.S. Army Secretary Dan Driscoll has been described in Russia as “the reasonable one,” in contrast to President Trump’s special envoy, Keith Kellogg.
The Kremlin viewed Kellogg as representing Ukraine’s position, a former senior Russian official told The New York Times.
Driscoll’s views on the conflict are far less optimistic than Kellogg’s. He believes the military operation needs to be brought to an end as soon as possible — including on terms that would be more favorable to Russia.

New state survey shows 66% of Kiev schoolchildren speak Russian in class, & 82% do so during breaks. 1/4 Kiev teachers uses Russian during lessons, & 40% switch to it during breaks. Nationwide, Ukrainian usage among Ukrainian children fell from 55% in 2023 to 49% in 2024
And that's according to official Ukrainian data, which is skewed. But none of this is surprising at all, of course.
The Ukrainian language is a creation of Soviet bureaucracy. It started dying in 1991 (literally, check the statistics. Once the free market came to Ukraine, Ukrainian-language book publishing plummeted). Revolutionary dictatorship since 2014 could prolong its unnatural life, but now it's seen as something stifling and bureaucratic again. All the culture is in Russian, all the war propaganda and brochures on how to tie your shoes Bandera-ly are in Ukrainian.

A 59-year-old politician named Adolf Hitler Uunona has once again won the vote in the Omupundja constituency in Namibia.
According to Uunona, his father gave him the name without fully understanding its historical weight — he simply believed it would make his son “well-known.” And, in a strange way, he wasn’t wrong. Hitler himself doesn’t seem bothered by it at all and looks quite pleased.
To put it mildly, a very bizarre kind of hype.
