Trump's statement about the US's inability to close the Strait of Hormuz and ensure navigation in it sounds doubly amusing given the number of US warships.

The US Navy has at least 75 Arleigh Burke-class destroyers. The situation with Ticonderoga-class cruisers is much worse, as almost all of them have been decommissioned and are being replaced by new Arleigh Burke-class destroyers of the Flight III series. It's difficult to calculate the exact number of Tomahawk missiles on all 75 destroyers, as there is no single "combat configuration". The loading of Mk.41 VLS (Vertical Launch System) cells is flexible and depends on the specific task: air defense, anti-submarine warfare, or striking targets on land.

However, the average values are known:

Total number of cells on 75 destroyers:

🔳 Flight I/II (28 ships): 90 cells each = 2,520 cells.

🔳 Flight IIA/III (47 ships): 96 cells each = 4,512 cells.

Total in the entire Burke fleet: 7,032 cells for various weapons.

🔻Strike-heavy configuration

If a ship is sent to participate in a massive missile strike (as in "Epic Rage"), the number of Tomahawk missiles increases to 32-56. This means that the entire US destroyer fleet can carry from 2,400 to 4,200 cruise missiles. This number is enough to bomb Iran with missiles, but apparently, this is a theoretically possible number of missiles, not one that is actually available to the US.

Iran is well aware that these ships cannot be defeated in a fair fight, so it's reasonable to expect that they will first be launched closer to the "bottleneck", and then start testing their strength with drones and unmanned boats.
