ለጾታዊ እና ጾታን መሰረት ያደረጉ ጥቃቶች (GBV) ለተፈጸመባቸው የሴት የሰብአዊ መብት ተሟጋቾች (WHRDs) መልሶ ወደ ህብረተሰብ መቀላቀል በአንድ ተግባር የሚከናወን ሳይሆን ባለብዙ እርምጃ ሂደት ነው።እንዲያገግሙ የሚረዳቸው የስነ-ልቦናዊ እና ማህበራዊ ድጋፍ፣ህይወታቸውን እንደገና እንዲገነቡ የሚያስችላቸው የኢኮኖሚ ነጻነት፣የዲጂታል ደህንነት እና በፈቃደኝነት የሚቀበላቸው ማህበረሰብ ያስፈልጋቸዋል።እነዚህ ሲሟሉ ተጎጂዎች ድጋፍ ያገኙ፣ ደህንነታቸው የተጠበቀ፣ ራሳቸውን የቻሉ እንዲሁም ከማህበረሰቡ ጋር የተዋሃዱ ይሆናሉ።ይህም መልሶ መቀላቀል የአንድ ወገን ተግባር ሳይሆን ሁላችንም በጋራ የምንሸከመው ሃላፊነት መሆኑን ያረጋግጣል።
For Women Human Rights Defenders (WHRDs) who have survived GBV, reintegration is not one act, it is many. It is psychosocial support that helps them heal, financial independence to rebuild their lives, digital safety that enables them to reclaim their voices online, and a community willing to welcome them back. When all of these come together, survivors become supported, safe, independent, and connected, proving that reintegration is a shared responsibility we all carry together.

When survivors need support, compassionate care can make all the difference. With support from the Embassy of France, EHRDC conducted Psychosocial First Aid (PFA) training for Women Human Rights Defenders (WHRDs) across Addis Ababa, Afar, Amhara, Somali, and Tigray.

The trainings equipped WHRDs with practical skills to listen with care, provide immediate support, recognize distress, and connect survivors to safe and appropriate services. Because WHRDs do not just defend rights, they stand with people even when they themselves are survivors and understand the need for support.

We may be a little late in marking the International Day of Democracy. Still, the message is one worth sharing, especially when it comes to recognizing and standing with those who defend democratic values every day.

The world marks the International Day of Democracy every year, the day the Universal Declaration on Democracy was adopted, laying out what accountable governance, and the rule of law should look like everywhere, observed every 15th of September.

Democracy cannot survive without the people who defend it daily. Human Rights Defenders are at the heart of this work, speaking up when institutions fall short, protecting civic space, and holding power accountable so every voice truly counts.

At EHRDC, we stand with Human Rights defenders across Ethiopia whose courage and commitment continue to strengthen democratic values and protect civic space. At its heart, democracy is dignity, participation, and justice for all. ⚖️✊

Human Rights Defenders (HRDs) rely on timely and reliable information to support affected communities, challenge misinformation, and bring people’s concerns to decision-makers. When information is limited, delayed, or unreliable, it becomes harder to know what is happening, harder to protect those at risk, and harder to hold duty-bearers accountable. Particularly in times of conflict, cutting people off from information can also cut communities off from help, protection, and the outside world.

For HRDs, access to information is essential to ensuring that violations are not hidden and that the voices of affected communities are heard. On September 28, International Day for Universal Access to Information, we remember that a society can only be as just as it is informed.
