Abstract
ABSTRACT
Introduction: #Substance #abuse is accompanied by a wide range of #psychological, #social, and #economic #adverse #outcomes and #damages. #Methamphetamine (ab)use is dangerous because of its wide range adverse outcomes and #hazardous sustaining #side_effects. Moreover, Methamphetamine-dependence is usually #treatment-#resistant. This study evaluated the Regulated 12-Session Matrix Model in treatment of outpatient methamphetamine-dependent individuals.
Method: 24 individuals were chosen according to #inclusion/#exclusion #criteria of the study and randomly assigned to equal #experimental (age range 19-41; mean age: 46.9) and #control groups (age range: 21-42; mean age: 27.8). Experimental group members partook Regulated 12-Session Matrix Model once a week in 12 consecutive weeks, while control group members remained at #waitlist.
Results: Independent t-test in 12th week showed that experimental group had lower methamphetamine use, comparing to control group (p<.05). #Phillai’s Trace, #Wilk’s Lambda, #Hotelling-Lawley's trace, and #Roy's largest root showed that there are #significant association between experimental and control groups in reduction of methamphetamine-use #lapse (p<.05). Within-subject F ratio revealed that “methamphetamine use” was significantly reduced in experimental group after clinical intervention (p<.001). Urine test showed significant difference in results of negative responses by the end of #intervention (p<.05) in experimental group, compared to control group, which was also significant from the results of both groups in pre-test (p<.001).
Discussion and conclusion: Efficacy of Regulated 12-Session Matrix Model in craving control and reduction of lapse and substance (ab)use in methamphetamine-dependent patients was approved with self-reports and biological #indicators. Regulated 12-Session Matrix Model has been proved to be beneficial in methamphetamine-dependencetreatment in #Iran and other alike #cultural and social atmospheres. Limitations and future implications are discussed.

Abstract
Introduction: One of the most important issues of organizations in the modern age is to maximize their #efficiency via #improvement of #organizational #behavior. Organizational behavior is #directly #linked to #mental #health and recent #studies have shown the major role of #religion in #maintaining mental health of people. The aim of the study was to #investigate the efficacy of #psycho_religious training on improvement of the organizational behavior and mental health.

Method: A group of 120 white collar #personnel (60 females and 60 males) chosen by #cluster #sampling & #divided randomly into two equal #experimental and control groups (n=60; 30 female & 30 male). The #experimental #trial was the #administration of the psycho-religious training for three weeks, which consisted of twelve 120-minute #discussion_group sessions during 12 weeks. In order to assess the mental health, #GHQ_28 was administered as pre-test and post-test in both groups.

Findings: The results of the #independent and dependent t-test indicate the #positive #effect of psycho-religious training on the mental health of the participants in the experimental group in indices of #anxiety/#insomnia, severe #depression, and total health (p<.05). There were no #significant #gender differences.

Discussion and conclusion: These #findings suggest that incorporation of #religious training within the usual #modalities of #psychological interventions would be beneficial and increase the levels of mental health and organizational behavior. Implications and suggestions are discussed.

Identification of the #Beer Component #Hordenine as #Food-Derived #Dopamine #D2 #Receptor #Agonist by #Virtual #Screening a 3D #Compound #Database

پژوهشگران دانشگاه فردریش-الکساندر ارلانگن-نورنبرگ (FAU) 🇩🇪 در گزارشی که به تازگی منتشر شده است، دریافتند #هوردنین که در #ماءالشعیر و ترکیبات #مالت موجود است، #گیرنده های #D2 #دوپامین را بطور طولانی تحریک می کند که منجر به تاثیرات مثبت فعال سازی مراکز لذت مغز می شوند.
🔬این پژوهشگران 13 هزار #مولفه #غذایی را آزمودند تا مشخص سازند کدام یک از آنها می توانند مرکز #لذت و #پاداش را در مغز فعال نموده و افراد را #شادمان نمایند. در این پژوهش که با استفاده از #مدلسازی #3D #کامپیوتری صورت پذیرفت، در انتها تنها 17 گزینه برای اثر بر گیرنده های دوپامینی D2 موثر شناخته شد.
📚در بین 17 ترکیب یافت شده مشخص شد هوردنین (ماده موثره موجود در ماءالشعیر) همانند دوپامین می تواند گیرنده های D2 را فعال کند، منتها مسیر علامت دهی متفاوتی دارد. هوردنین بواسط #پروتیئن های #G گیرنده های D2 را تحریک می کند که این امر منجر به اثری طولانیتر از اثر دوپامین در مغز خواهد شد.
🔑هوردنین از لحاظ تاثیر 76درصد مشابهت با دوپامین دارد و ترکیبی است که براحتی از طریق #خون جذب مغز شده و بسرعت می تواند مراکز پاداش مغز را فعال کند.
🔆هنوز دوز موثره و میزان مصرف مجاز هردونین در بازه های زمانی مشخص نشده است، اما بنظر می رسد ترکیبات مالت بویژه ماءالشعیر بتوانند بعنوان داروهای موثری برای بهبود #خلق (بویژه در مسایل #استرس، #اضطراب و #افسردگی) بکار روند.

Abstract
The #dopamine #D2 #receptor (#D2R) is involved in #food #reward and #compulsive #food intake. The present study developed a #virtual #screening (#VS) method to identify food components, which may modulate D2R signalling. In contrast to their common applications in drug discovery, VS methods are rarely applied for the discovery of #bioactive #food #compounds. Here, databases were created that exclusively contain #substances occurring in food and #natural #sources (about 13,000 different compounds in total) as the basis for combined pharmacophore searching, hit-list #clustering and #molecular #docking into D2R #homology models. From 17 compounds finally tested in radioligand assays to determine their binding affinities, seven were classified as hits (hit rate = 41%). Functional properties of the five most active compounds were further examined in -arrestin recruitment and #cAMP #inhibition experiments. D2R-promoted #G-protein activation was observed for #hordenine, a constituent of #barley and #beer, with approximately #identical #ligand #efficacy as #dopamine (76%) and a #Ki value of 13 μM. Moreover, hordenine #antagonised D2-mediated β-arrestin recruitment indicating functional selectivity. Application of our databases provides new perspectives for the discovery of bioactive food constituents using VS methods. Based on its presence in beer, we suggest that hordenine significantly contributes to mood-elevating effects of beer.

پژوهشگران گوانگجو 🇨🇳، دانشگاه گوانگ دونگ 🇨🇳، و دانشگاه سون یات سن 🇨🇳 در پژوهشی #فراتحلیلی به بررسی سودمندی مودافینیل در کاهش خستگی بیماران مبتلا به مالتیپل اسکلروسیس پراختند.
📚نتایج این بررسی نشان دادند پژوهش های اندکی (تنها 5 پژوهش) به بررسی مقایسه ای اثر مودافینیل بر کاهش خستگی اختصاص یافته اند. نتایج بدست آمده در مورد تاثیرات مثبا مودافینیل با توجه به کمی پژوهش های مرتبط، قطعیت بالا ندارند. در کل بخ نظر می رسد مودافینیل نسبت به دارونما تاثیرات معناداری برای کاهش خستگی بیماران مبتلا به اسکلروز مالتیپل دارد.

Abstract
Background: #Clinical #trials examining the #therapeutic benefit of #modafinil in #MS #fatigue provide #conflicting data. The goal of this study was to systematically evaluate the efficacy of modafinil using a meta-analytic method.
Methods: A systematic literature search was performed on published peer reviewed articles from 2000 to 2017 using the #Cochrane #Library, #PubMed, and #EMBASE. This review included double blind, randomized controlled trials, which evaluated modafinil in MS fatigue. The primary outcome measure was the estimated treatment difference in the #Modified #Fatigue #Impact #Scale #score (#MFIS) and #Fatigue #Severity Scale score (#FSS). A secondary outcome measure was the estimated treatment difference in the #Symbol #Digit #Modalities #Test (#SDMT).
Results: A total of 303 patients from five randomized controlled trials were included in the analyses. Modafinil was superior to #placebo with an estimated treatment difference according to the MFIS (MD = −5.27, 95% CI: −8.51 to −2.03, P = 0.001). For the FSS, there was no significant difference between the two groups (MD = 2.50, 95%CI: −0.70 to 5.70, P = 0.13). For the secondary outcome, there was no significant difference between groups studied using the SDMT (MD = 0.23, 95% CI: −0.25 to 0.71, P = 0.35).
Conclusions: Our meta-analysis showed that modafinil was an effective #pharmacologic therapy for MS fatigue. Additional research is required to determine optimal dosing and treatment schedules.

Using Recent #BCI Literature to Deepen our Understanding of #Clinical #Neurofeedback: A Short Review

در پژوهشی مروری که به تازگی توسط پژوهشگران دانشگاه رنه 🇫🇷، دانشگاه یونیل 🇨🇭، و دانشگاه بوردو 🇫🇷منتشر شده، نوشتار الکوبی و همکاران (2018؛ مقاله پیشین در همین کانال) در حوزه نوروفیدبک تکمیل شده است.

1️⃣بررسی ها نشان می دهند نورفیدبک و رابطهای مغز-کامپیوتر (#BCI) از اساس با هم متفاوتند.

2️⃣بررسی پژوهش های مرتبط با BCI نشان داده است سه دسته از عوامل بر عملکرد آنها تاثیر دارد: عامل های مختص #تکلیف، عاملهای #شناختی/#انگیزشی، و عامل های مرتبط با #پذیرش #تکنولوژی.

3️⃣از آنجا که BCI و نوروفیدبک هدف مشترکی دارند (#یادگیری تغییر الگوهای خاص #نوروفیزیولوژیک) فرآیندهای نوروفیزولوژیک مشابهی هنگام کاربرد هردوی این روش ها در #مغز دخیلند.

4️⃣بنظر می رسد برای درک بهتر نوروفیدبک، توانمندی، و دامنه کاربرد آن در مداخلات بالینی، لازم است متخصصان فهمی جامع و دقیق از BCI و کارکردهای سیستم های عصبی دستگاه اعصاب مرکزی (CNS) داشته باشند.

Abstract
In their recent paper, Alkoby et al. (2018) provide the readership with an extensive and very insightful review of the factors influencing #NeuroFeedback (#NF) performance. These factors are drawn from both the NF literature and the #Brain–Computer Interface (#BCI) literature. Our short review aims to complement Alkoby et al.’s review by reporting recent additions to the BCI literature. The object of this paper is to highlight this literature and discuss its potential relevance and usefulness to better understand the processes underlying NF and further improve the design of clinical trials assessing NF #efficacy. Indeed, we are convinced that while NF and BCI are fundamentally different in many ways, both the BCI and NF communities could reach compelling achievements by building upon one another.

By reviewing the recent BCI literature, we identified three types of factors that influence BCI performance: #task-specific, #cognitive/#motivational and #technology-acceptance-related factors. Since BCIs and NF share a common goal (i.e., learning to modulate specific neurophysiological patterns), similar cognitive and neurophysiological processes are likely to be involved during the training process. Thus, the literature on BCI training may help (1) to deepen our understanding of neurofeedback training processes and (2) to understand the variables that influence the clinical efficacy of NF. This may help to properly assess and/or control the influence of these variables during randomized controlled trials.
