🔆پژوهشگران روانشناسی دانشگاه ساسکس و کمبریج انگلستان برای اولین بار در جهان ارتباط دقیق و عینی بین آتیزم و حس آمیزی/هم حسی را مشخص ساختند.
پژوهش های پیشین مشخص ساخته بودند که احتمال رخداد آتیزم و سینستزیا همراه با هم به طرز معناداری بیش از رخداد آنها به تنهایی است. سینستزیا پدیده ای است که در آن #نظام های #حسی با هم ترکیب می شوند و برای فرد موسیقی منجر به فعالسازی مراکز کلمه، رنگ و یا طعم در مغز می شود.
🔍تاکنون تصور بر این بود که سینستزیا یک استعداد خدادادی است، اما پژوهش های این تیم تحقیقی مشخص ساخته است که در حقیقت افراد دارای #سینستزیا نقایص متعدد #پردازشی، #شناختی و #تعاملی در ارتباط با دیگران دارند و حتی در مواردی که فرد بدون تشخیص آتیزم است، مشکلات حساسیت بیش از حد به ارتباطات و محرک های بیرونی دارد. پژوهش های این گروه برای یافتن مبانی نورونی این پدیده در حال انجام است.
Abstract
#Several studies have suggested that there is a link between #synaesthesia and #autism but the nature of that link remains poorly characterised. The present study considers whether atypical sensory sensitivity may be a common link between the conditions. Sensory #hypersensitivity (#aversion to certain #sounds, #touch, etc., or increased ability to make sensory discriminations) and/or hyposensitivity (desire to stimulate the senses , or a reduced response to sensory stimuli are a recently introduced diagnostic feature of #autism spectrum conditions (#ASC). Synaesthesia is defined by unusual sensory experiences and has also been linked to a typical cortical hyper-excitability. The Glasgow Sensory Questionnaire (#GSQ) was administered to synaesthetes and people with ASC. Both groups reported increased sensory sensitivity relative to controls with a large effect size. Both groups also reported a similar pattern of both increased #hyper- and #hypo-sensitivities across multiple senses. The #AQ (Autism-Spectrum Quotient) scores were elevated in the synaesthetes, and one subscale of this measure (#attention to detail) placed synaesthetes within the autistic range. A standard laboratory test of visual stress (the #Pattern #Glare Test), administered online, corroborated the findings of increased sensitivity to aversive visual stimuli in synaesthetes. We conclude that atypical sensory sensitivity is an important shared feature between autism and synaesthesia.

Abstract
#Autism #spectrum #conditions (#ASC) has recently been associated with increased risk of #suicidality. However, no studies have explored how autistic traits may interact with current models of #suicidal #behavior in a #non-clinical #population. The current study therefore explored how #self-reported autistic traits interact with perceived #burdensomeness and #thwarted #belongingness in #predicting #suicidal behavior, in the context of the #Interpersonal-Psychological Theory of Suicide (#IPTS). 163 #young #adults (aged 18–30 years) completed an online #survey including measures of thwarted belonging and perceived burdensomeness (#Interpersonal #Needs #Questionnaire), self-reported autistic traits (#Autism #Spectrum #Quotient), current #depression (#Centre for #Epidemiological #Studies #Depression #Scale), and #lifetime #suicidality (Suicide Behavior Questionnaire-Revised). Results showed that burdensomeness and thwarted belonging significantly mediated the relationship between autistic traits and suicidal behavior. Both depression and autistic traits significantly predicted thwarted belonging and perceived burdensomeness. Autistic traits did not significantly moderate the relationship between suicidal behavior and thwarted belonging or perceived burdensomeness. Results suggest that the IPTS provides a useful framework for understanding the influence of autistic traits on suicidal behavior. However, the psychometric properties of these measures need be explored in those with clinically confirmed diagnosis of ASC.
