According to Israel’s N12 News, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has now said that the ceasefire will not begin until Hamas has provided the list of hostages to be freed. This comes after reports that Hamas has so far failed to do so. The ceasefire was set to begin at 8:30 a.m. Israel Standard Time

After the Israeli prime minister issued orders to the Israel Defense Force to delay the ceasefire if Hamas does not turn over the list of hostages to be released, Hamas has issued a statement claiming that they have not handed the list over due to “technical reasons on the ground.” (Barak Ravid)

Such delays should surprise no one, as many have long doubted that Hamas actually had access to the amount of hostages as the claimed during negotiations. While it still remains to be seen if this is more stalling from the terror group or a genuine hiccup, it’s important to note that they have been disingenuous about their access to hostages in the past to achieve even a brief respite from the fighting.

The Israel Defense Force has announced that it recently conducted a Special Forces Operation in the Gaza Strip, which resulted in the recovery of the Body of Staff Sergeant Oron Shaul, who was killed and captured by Hamas in 2014.

Hamas now has 10 minutes to turn the list of hostages over. At this point, it’s highly unlikely that they will do so in time.

The Spokesperson for the Israel Defense Force has confirmed that Hamas has yet to meet its obligations by not sending the list of hostages and therefore, the ceasefire will not be implemented until they do so. Strikes are now ongoing in Gaza as the ceasefire is not in effect.
