According to President Macron, he and President Trump spoke on a number of different issues, including securing freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and the Red Sea, securing a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine that would see limitations on strikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, and other key issue of note.

The new helipad on the White House South Lawn was christened today as a U.S. Marine Corps VH-92A "Patriot" departed as 'Marine One', marking the first operational use from the site. The helipad has a heated concrete base topped with granite plates, with the presidential seal engraved into the surface. Sikorsky, the VH-92A's manufacturer, funded the roughly $6 million project, a contribution tied in part to damage the aircraft's exhaust and rotor wash had caused to the lawn.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has arrived in New York to attend the UN General Assembly. A veritable flurry of diplomatic contacts are set for the next few days, as President Zelensky is set to meet a myriad of other leaders, including U.S. President Donald J. Trump, on the sidelines of the UNGA. Per a statement from Zelensky, drone deals, meetings with U.S. politicians, meetings with U.S. companies, and high level meetings with international partners will be included in the nearly 20 meetings scheduled.

According to Kyodo News, citing a senior Iranian official, Iran has offered to reopen the Strait of Hormuz in exchange for the U.S. taking steps towards the lifting of the blockade of vessels traveling to and from Iran. Per the official, via Kyodo, “There is a possibility of moving toward an agreement.” However, we’ve heard such statements before from Iranian decision-makers, only for more hardline factions to torpedo the negotiations process. It remains to be seen whether Iran is serious about honoring such a commitment.

Saudi Arabia is preparing to resume oil exports from its western port of Yanbu, as the East-West Pipeline, struck earlier in the month by Iranian-backed groups in Iraq, has restarted, according to Reuters, citing people briefed on the matter.

Iranian-backed groups in Iraq targeted the pipeline in a notable move, amidst still ongoing Houthi-Saudi-Yemeni Government escalation and Iranian calls to restrict both of the major maritime choke points in the region, the Strait of Hormuz and Bab Al-Mandeb Strait.

The future USS Ted Stevens (DDG-128) sails alongside USS Daniel Inouye (DDG-118) in the Pacific ahead of Stevens' commissioning next month in Whittier, Alaska.

Both ships are named for decorated World War II veterans who became two of the Senate's closest allies. Stevens flew transport missions over "The Hump" in the China-Burma-India theater. Inouye lost his right arm fighting with the 442nd Regimental Combat Team in Italy, earning the Medal of Honor. They served together in the Senate from the 1960s until Stevens' death in 2010, calling each other "brother" and co-chairing the Defense Appropriations Subcommittee for decades, work Inouye said was aimed at making sure "the nation awoke to the importance of the Pacific for our economy and international relations.

The Navy will commission the future USS Ted Stevens on October 3rd.

As a Flight III destroyer, Ted Stevens carries the AN/SPY 6(V)1 Air and Missile Defense Radar along with upgraded electrical and cooling systems for added warfighting capacity. Following its commissioning, the ship will return to its homeport of Naval Station Norfolk, Virginia as an active warship preparing for its first deployment.

The deal calls for U.S. complete oversight on security decisions regarding Greenland, and two new bases will be built on the island.
