The Telegraph, citing sources in Yemen, reports that the Houthis are preparing contingency plans to close the Bab al-Mandeb Strait in coordination with Iran if Tehran decides to escalate the conflict further.

According to the report, the Houthis are expanding ties with Somalia's al-Shabaab, including the alleged transfer of Iranian drone technology, with the goal of exerting influence over both sides of the strategic waterway. The Telegraph says the move would mirror Iran's strategy in the Strait of Hormuz, potentially allowing Tehran to threaten two of the world's most important maritime chokepoints simultaneously.

The report notes that Bab al-Mandeb carries roughly 10–12% of global maritime trade and has never been closed at the same time as the Strait of Hormuz. If both waterways were disrupted simultaneously, shipping would face major delays and significantly higher costs.

The reporting comes as regional tensions continue to rise, with U.S. strikes against Iranian targets, renewed attacks in and around the Strait of Hormuz, and Saudi-Houthi hostilities intensifying following recent strikes on Sana'a Airport.

Iran declared the Strait of Hormuz an inviolable "red line" on Thursday, warning that any U.S. strikes on Iranian infrastructure, including the power plants and bridges President Donald J. Trump has threatened to target, would trigger retaliatory strikes against critical infrastructure across the Gulf region.

The warning comes after four consecutive days of strikes against Iranian military targets and has reimposed a naval blockade of Iranian ports, with Washington stating the objective is to restore freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz following repeated Iranian attacks on commercial shipping.

Iranian officials maintained that control of the Strait is not dependent on coastal bases or islands, insisting Tehran retains the ability to control the waterway from across its territory. They also reiterated that reopening the Strait requires U.S. compliance with the previously signed memorandum of understanding and acceptance of Iranian regulations governing vessel transits.

The rhetoric comes amid a rapidly widening regional conflict, with Iran launching missile and drone attacks against U.S. forces and partners in Kuwait, Jordan, and Bahrain, while analysts continue to warn that Tehran could also seek to pressure global trade by expanding the confrontation to the Bab al-Mandeb Strait through its Houthi allies in Yemen.

Purported video showing severe damage to a bridge near Bandar Abbas, Iran, following recent U.S. airstrikes in the region has emerged, though remains unverified.

The reported damage comes a day after Iranian Armed Forces spokesman Brig. Gen. Mohammad Akraminia warned that any U.S. attacks on Iranian infrastructure would be met with strikes against infrastructure across the Gulf region, describing such a response as broader and more destructive than previous attacks.

The Islamic Resistance in Iraq, an Iran-aligned militia umbrella group, has released a statement announcing a $10 million bounty for anyone who kills President Donald J. Trump.

The statement accuses Trump of responsibility for the 2020 strike that killed Qassem Soleimani and Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, describing the reward as being funded through donations from the group's supporters.

The announcement comes amid rapidly escalating regional tensions, as the U.S. continues airstrikes against Iranian targets and Iran-backed groups across the Middle East have intensified threats against U.S. interests.

CENTCOM has released imagery of U.S. Marines with the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) conducting a verification boarding of the tanker M/T Wen Yao in the Gulf of Oman as part of enforcement of the ongoing U.S. naval blockade against Iran.

According to CENTCOM, U.S. forces have now redirected three commercial vessels attempting to reach Iranian ports, disabled one non-compliant vessel, and boarded one vessel to verify compliance with the blockade.

The 11th MEU is embarked aboard the USS Boxer Amphibious Ready Group (ARG), consisting of the USS Boxer (LHD-4), USS Portland (LPD-27), and USS Comstock (LSD-45), which continues to support maritime security and blockade enforcement operations in the region.

As the United States and Iran continue exchanging strikes tonight, including reported U.S. strikes on multiple bridges near Bandar Abbas and Iranian missile and drone attacks targeting U.S. assets in Bahrain, Iraq, and Kuwait, the current aerial picture over the region, based on aircraft visible via FlightRadar24, includes a U.S. Navy P-8A "Poseidon", multiple U.S. Air Force KC-135 "Stratotankers" and KC-46A "Pegasus" aerial refueling aircraft, as well as an unidentified U.S. Air Force aircraft orbiting over the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

This represents only a portion of the overall air picture, as many military aircraft are not visible on public flight-tracking services. Additional U.S. military aircraft are almost certainly operating throughout the region.

Based on the duration and scope of today's operations, this appears to have been the most extensive and intense day of the renewed U.S. air campaign against Iran.

Iranian state media outlet IRNA is claiming that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) carried out a surprise attack on a U.S. Special Operations compound in the al-Tanf area of Syria, alleging that several helicopters and a radar system were destroyed and that "a large number of Americans" were killed or wounded.

If confirmed, it would mark the first known Iranian attack on U.S. forces in Syria during the current war.

It should be noted that IRNA serves as a state media outlet for the Iranian government, and casualty and battle damage claims made by Iranian state media and the IRGC have frequently proven to be exaggerated or inaccurate during past conflicts.
