Commercial shipping visible via MarineTraffic.com shows traffic transiting the Strait of Hormuz has slowed to a trickle over the past 24 hours, with just five merchant vessels completing the transit-all via the Iranian (northern) traffic separation scheme.

One vessel, Jin Zeng 5, initially appeared to be routing through the U.S. established safe route through Omani waters, but altered course before entering the Strait and instead completed its transit through the Iranian channel.

It is possible additional vessels transited the Strait with their Automatic Identification System (AIS) transponders disabled, in which case they would not appear in publicly available tracking data. Even so, the visible traffic suggests commercial operators continue to overwhelmingly favor the Iranian route despite the availability of the expanded southern corridor.

According to the New York Times, citing U.S. officials, Iran is expected to make a public statement in the coming days announcing free passage for commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. Per the officials, if such a statement, followed by commensurate action, is not made, โ€œweโ€™re not going to have a good outcome for them,โ€ signaling renewed and expanded U.S. strikes on Iran.

The New York Times reports that the Trump administration has issued grand jury subpoenas to several of its journalists following the newspaper's reporting on security concerns surrounding the President's new Qatari-donated VC-25B Bridge that recently entered service in the "Air Force One" fleet.

According to the Times, some subpoenas were delivered by federal agents at reporters' homes and require the journalists to testify before a federal grand jury next week as part of an alleged criminal leak investigation. The articles at issue reported that President Trump departed Turkey aboard the older VC-25A at the recommendation of the Secret Service and that the new aircraft may lack some of the defensive capabilities of the legacy VC-25A and new VC-25B fleet.

The Times called the move an attempt to intimidate journalists and said it intends to challenge the subpoenas, while the administration has not publicly commented on the specific investigation.

Eyes are on Muscat, Oman today, as Iranian, Qatari, and possibly Pakistani decision-makers descend on the Gulf nation for discussions surrounding a transit framework for the Strait of Hormuz. Per reports, specifically from regional news outlets and @BashaReport, Omani officials hope to secure a framework where the Median Transit Lane, a transit route that separates the pre-war inbound and outbound lanes, will be opened for free commercial maritime traffic through the strait.

Following reports of gunfire in Baghdadโ€™s Green Zone, regional news outlets are now reporting that former Iraqi MP, Talal Al-Zoubi, has been arrested. Al-Zoubi is a member of Iraqโ€™s Azem coalition, a Sunni-Arab coalition. His arrest does not yet indicate a wider targeting of the coalition, and is subordinate to the ongoing widespread crackdowns on corruption by current Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi.

In direct contradiction to reports that the U.S. was expecting an Iranian announcement on freedom of traffic through the Strait of Hormuz and more evidence that little to nothing was gained by Oman-Iran talks today, the IRGC has announced that they struck a vessel that they say was in violation of their Persian Gulf Strait Authority (PGSA) transit framework. In addition to this, the IRGC has now said that the strait is closed until further notice.

Commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz remains effectively unchanged despite the rapidly deteriorating security situation in the region.

Over the past 24 hours, just six merchant vessels were observed, visible via MarineTraffic.com, completing the transit via the Iranian (northern) traffic separation scheme, while none utilized the U.S.-supported southern corridor through Omani waters.

The static traffic picture follows Iran's attack on the Cyprus-flagged M/V GFS Galaxy, subsequent U.S. self-defense strikes against Iranian military targets, and reports of air raid sirens sounding across multiple Gulf states as regional tensions continue to escalate.

U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced it has completed a third round of strikes this week against Iranian military targets in response to another attack on a commercial vessel in the Strait of Hormuz.

According to CENTCOM, approximately 140 military targets were struck during the latest operation, including missile and drone sites, naval assets, ammunition depots, communications networks, and coastal surveillance systems.

Across three nights of operations, the U.S. says it has now struck more than 300 Iranian military targets aimed at degrading Tehran's ability to threaten commercial shipping. CENTCOM also stated that, since early May, U.S. forces have helped facilitate the safe transit of more than 800 commercial vessels carrying approximately 400 million barrels of crude oil through the Strait of Hormuz.
