The Joint Maritime Information Center (JMIC) has issued a new advisory stating that the expanded southern transit corridor through the Strait of Hormuz remains open and available to all commercial traffic, despite the recent series of attacks targeting vessels along the U.S.-supported route through Omani waters.

The bulletin also notes that additional transit routes are available, but cautions that they are not protected, underscoring the elevated security risks that continue to confront commercial shipping in and around the Strait.

Newsmax reports that the USS Boxer and its embarked 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) were temporarily sidelined during the opening weeks of the conflict with Iran after an engine cooling system failure forced the amphibious assault ship to divert to Diego Garcia for repairs.

The unexpected maintenance issue reportedly removed a key U.S. rapid-response capability at a time when the Pentagon was enforcing a maritime blockade of Iran and considering additional military options. After repairs were completed, the Boxer Amphibious Ready Group resumed operations and is now supporting renewed U.S. operations in the Middle East.

The incident also underscores broader concerns about the readiness and availability of the Navy's amphibious fleet, which continues to limit the Marine Corps' ability to rapidly respond to global crises.

Axios' Barak Ravid reports that the Trump administration is demanding that Iran publicly declare the Strait of Hormuz open to commercial shipping and commit to ending attacks on merchant vessels by tomorrow, according to Axios, citing U.S. officials.

The request comes after U.S. officials say Iran violated last month's memorandum of understanding by targeting commercial ships, prompting two rounds of U.S. retaliatory strikes. Iranian and Omani officials are expected to meet in Muscat tomorrow, with Washington signaling it expects Tehran to reaffirm freedom of navigation and halt further attacks.

U.S. officials say diplomacy remains the preferred path, but warned that if Iran refuses to make the commitment, additional consequences could follow.

Commercial shipping visible via MarineTraffic.com shows traffic transiting the Strait of Hormuz has slowed to a trickle over the past 24 hours, with just five merchant vessels completing the transit-all via the Iranian (northern) traffic separation scheme.

One vessel, Jin Zeng 5, initially appeared to be routing through the U.S. established safe route through Omani waters, but altered course before entering the Strait and instead completed its transit through the Iranian channel.

It is possible additional vessels transited the Strait with their Automatic Identification System (AIS) transponders disabled, in which case they would not appear in publicly available tracking data. Even so, the visible traffic suggests commercial operators continue to overwhelmingly favor the Iranian route despite the availability of the expanded southern corridor.

According to the New York Times, citing U.S. officials, Iran is expected to make a public statement in the coming days announcing free passage for commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. Per the officials, if such a statement, followed by commensurate action, is not made, โ€œweโ€™re not going to have a good outcome for them,โ€ signaling renewed and expanded U.S. strikes on Iran.

The New York Times reports that the Trump administration has issued grand jury subpoenas to several of its journalists following the newspaper's reporting on security concerns surrounding the President's new Qatari-donated VC-25B Bridge that recently entered service in the "Air Force One" fleet.

According to the Times, some subpoenas were delivered by federal agents at reporters' homes and require the journalists to testify before a federal grand jury next week as part of an alleged criminal leak investigation. The articles at issue reported that President Trump departed Turkey aboard the older VC-25A at the recommendation of the Secret Service and that the new aircraft may lack some of the defensive capabilities of the legacy VC-25A and new VC-25B fleet.

The Times called the move an attempt to intimidate journalists and said it intends to challenge the subpoenas, while the administration has not publicly commented on the specific investigation.

Following reports of gunfire in Baghdadโ€™s Green Zone, regional news outlets are now reporting that former Iraqi MP, Talal Al-Zoubi, has been arrested. Al-Zoubi is a member of Iraqโ€™s Azem coalition, a Sunni-Arab coalition. His arrest does not yet indicate a wider targeting of the coalition, and is subordinate to the ongoing widespread crackdowns on corruption by current Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi.
