Speaking to reporters earlier during his weekend visit to India, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said “there may be news later today” on ongoing peace negotiations and a possible deal between Iran and the United States.

A U.S. official briefed on the negotiations told Axios’ Barak Ravid that the Trump Administration and Iran are close to a peace deal on ending the war and noted remaining gaps focus on “wording” of several points, as talks continue with the Iranians.

Today’s call between President Trump and Arab leaders has reportedly now concluded, with a regional diplomat telling Fox News that the call was “very positive,” and that “Good progress is being made.” Adding that, “Regional leaders were supportive of the progress and of the breakthrough President Trump achieved in the talks [with Iran].”

Following Ukraine’s targeting of a Russian ‘Rubicon’ drone unit headquarters, which Russia has said hit a student dormitory, killing over a dozen people, the U.S. State Department has issued a warning to U.S. citizens in Kyiv. Per the release, the likelihood of a large missile attack is high and U.S. citizens in Kyiv should heed all directives to shelter. This follows Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s warning that Russia is planning a large missile attack that may include the use of the Oreshnik IRBM.

According to a statement from U.S. President Donald J. Trump, following a call with the leaders of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Pakistan, Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, and Bahrain, an agreement, surrounding the current memorandum of understanding on the table, “has been largely negotiated.” Per the statement from President Trump, the final points of the deal are now being discussed and “the Strait of Hormuz will be opened.” Trump also spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to fill him in on recent developments. Further announcements regarding the deal are forthcoming, per the president.

Several reports are beginning to emerge giving some description of what the potential deal between the U.S. and Iran will look like. These unverified reports, largely based on anonymous sources, state that the deal will include a full reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, an end to the U.S. blockade, and the release of up to $25 billion in frozen Iranian assets around the world and give a 30-60 day timeline for a subsequent deal on the Iranian nuclear program.

The U.S. Secret Service has issued a statement regarding the shooting incident earlier this afternoon near the White House at 17th St. NW & Pennsylvania Ave NW in Washington, D.C., that injured two people. The Secret Service returned fire after an individual pulled a weapon from his bag and began firing. The suspect was struck and transported to an area hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. At some point during the shooting a bystander was also struck. There were no injuries to officers.

The suspect in tonight’s shooting near the White House has been identified as 21-year-old Nasire Best, with his online presence suggesting that he believed he was Jesus Christ. Best was transported to George Washington University Hospital after the shooting, where he later died from his wounds, according to the U.S. Secret Service.

According to Axios, citing U.S. officials familiar with the ongoing negotiations, the peace agreement that Iran and the United States are close to signing involves a 60-day ceasefire extension during which the Strait of Hormuz would be reopened, Iran would be able to freely sell oil, and negotiations would be held on curbing future nuclear ambitions of Iran.

Both sides would sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that would last 60 days and could be extended by mutual agreement from the two countries. During the 60-day period, the Strait of Hormuz would be open with no tolls and Iran would agree to clear the mines it deployed in the strait to let ships pass freely. In exchange, the U.S. would lift its blockade on Iranian ports and issue some sanctions waivers, allowing the sale of oil and other energy products by Iran.

Iran has again denied that the nuclear issue is not part of negotiations, as Reuters, citing a senior Iranian official, is now reporting that they have not agreed to hand over enrichment materials. Earlier this week, Iran steadfastly denied reports that they may be willing to accede to this measure, and their reiteration of the demand again puts their public position at loggerheads with that of the Trump administration.

According to Trey Yingst, reporting for Fox News, the current U.S.-Iran deal framework on the table has U.S. forces staying in the Iranian local region for 30 days, while frozen Iranian assets and funds. Additionally, per the report, sanctions waivers would be granted to Iran as well.

However, amidst reports of the two sides achieving convergence on key issues, the U.S. side has continued to push that enriched material being handed over and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz are two key points of contention that Iran has been willing to work on, but Iranian outlets continue to deny such claims.
