Multiple U.S. intelligence agencies have assessed in recent days that the Iranian Government is not currently willing to engage in serious or substantial negotiations to end the ongoing war against Israel and the United States. Assessments indicate that the Iranian Government believes it is in a strong position in the war and does not have to accede to America’s diplomatic demands, and while Iran is willing to keep channels open, it does not trust the United States or President Trump, U.S. officials have told The New York Times.

According to Reuters, citing a person briefed on the matter, U.S. Vice President JD Vance ​has communicated with intermediaries from Pakistan on the ongoing Iran conflict as recently as this past Tuesday. Vice President Vance privately signaled through intermediaries that U.S. President Donald J. Trump was open to a ceasefire, per the reports. Vance was appointed by President Trump as the principal U.S. decision-maker to lead negotiation efforts. Per the report, it was communicated to Iran that no ceasefire would be realized until past U.S. demands were met. Foremost of those the Iranian nuclear program, the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, and the cessation of support for non-state actors across the Middle East.

According to a release from the Israel Defense Force (IDF), in the past two days, using 650 munitions, the IDF has conducted strikes on 400 Iranian regime and IRGC targets. Targets included air defense systems, launch sites, production, storage of ballistic missiles and missiles intended to target aircraft, and 15 weapons manufacturing sites, including a central complex of the Iranian Ministry of Defense.

Iran has now launched a total of 89 waves of ballistic missile, cruise missile, and drone strikes against U.S. bases and infrastructure in the Middle East, their Gulf neighbors, Kurdish territories, and Israel since the start of the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

According to The New York Times, citing two Pentagon officials, the U.S. plans to increase the amount of A-10 Warthogs deployed to the Middle East. Per the report, 18 additional A-10C Thunderbolt lls will be sent to the Middle East in addition to the 12 already operating in the U.S. Central Command Area-of-Responsibility.
