Statement from Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, following reports that he has been involved in peace negotiations with the United States and may attend a summit with U.S. officials later this week in Pakistan:

“Iranian people demand complete and remorseful punishment of the aggressors. All Irainan officials stand firmly behind their supreme leader and people until this goal is achieved. No negotiations have been held with the US, and fakenews is used to manipulate the financial and oil markets and escape the quagmire in which the US and Israel are trapped.”

Video footage shows the burning wreckage of a Colombian Air Force C-130 Hercules after crashing earlier during take off from Puerto Leguízamo, with authorities reporting that the death toll includes at least 90 officers with the Fuerza Pública de Colombia.

According to Israel Hayom, an assassination attempt on Israeli Minister of National Security Ben Gvir was thwarted by Shin Bet and Israeli Police. The suspect, who is roughly 20-years-old, made contact with jihadist elements in Yemen and Turkey and voiced a desire to carry out a suicide attack. The suspect has yet to be named.

Speaking during an event in Memphis, U.S. President Donald J. Trump states that Iran “means business” now in negotiations with the United States, saying that they have had “very good discussions,” which was the deciding factor in his decision to temporarily postpone strikes against power plants in Iran.

We have a country known as Iran that, for 47 years, has been just a purveyor of terror, and they're very close to having a nuclear weapon… And, Pete, I think you were the first one to speak up, and you said, ‘Let's do it,’ because you can't let them have a nuclear weapon.”

“Democrats are putting our country at great risk during this period of time, a period that they call a war. They call it a war. We call it a military operation.”

Despite today’s announcement by President Trump on the possible start of peace negotiations with Iran, there has been no change in plans to send thousands of additional Marines and Sailors, along with elements of the U.S. Army’s 82nd Airborne Division, to the Middle East, military sources told CBS News. 

Senior military officials are weighing the possible deployment of a Brigade Combat Team from the U.S. Army’s 82nd Airborne Division, roughly 3,000 Paratroopers assigned to the Immediate Response Force (IRF) which are capable of deploying anywhere in the world within 18 hours, as well as some elements of the division’s headquarters staff at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, in order to support U.S. military operations in Iran, defense officials tell The New York Times.

Senior Iranian officials have agreed to several major demands from the United States to end the war, including a five-year freeze for its long-range ballistic missile program, officials tell Israel’s Channel 12.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in his first statement since today’s announcement from U.S. President Trump regarding potential peace negotiations with Iran:

“Earlier today, I spoke with our friends, President Trump. President Trump believes that there is a chance to leverage the great achievements of the IDF and the US military to realize the war goals of the agreement. An agreement that will protect our vital interests. At the same time, we continue to attack both Iran and Lebanon. We sanctify the missile and nuclear programs to the last detail and continue to severely harm Hezbollah. Just a few days ago we eliminated two more nuclear scientists and the hand is still outstretched. We will protect our vital interests in any situation.”

U.S. officials have told CBS News that there are at least a dozen underwater mines, believed to be Iranian-manufactured Maham 3 and Maham 7 Limpet Mines, currently scattered throughout the Strait of Hormuz.

According to Bloomberg, citing people with knowledge on the matter, Saudi Arabia has told the U.S. that it is willing to strike Iran if they target Saudi water and power infrastructure.

According to Bloomberg, citing a senior diplomat posted in the region, Oman, historically a mediator between Iran and the U.S., and Turkey played key roles in keeping open back channels between the U.S. and Iran, with Egypt, India, and Saudi Arabia also playing some level of a role in talks as well.

According to the Financial Times, citing two officials with knowledge on the matter, Pakistan has proposed that U.S.-Iran talks take place in the capital of Islamabad as early as this week. Pakistan's principal decision-maker, Army Chief Asim Munir, spoke with U.S. President Donald J. Trump on the matter yesterday while Pakistani Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif held talks with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian earlier today.

Two people briefed on the matter have told the Financial Times that, amongst other regional nations, Pakistan has played a key role in maintaining lines of communication between Teehran and White House Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff and White House Envoy Jared Kushner in recent days.
