U.S. President Donald J. Trump said in an interview Saturday with NBC News that he’s not ready to make a deal to end the war with Iran despite the country’s willingness to do so “because the terms aren’t good enough yet,” but declined to say what those terms would be, while adding that he is working with other countries on a plan to secure the Strait of Hormuz.

President Trump said he was “surprised” that Iran decided to attack other Middle Eastern countries in response to the U.S.-Israeli strike operation, and that U.S. strikes on Kharg Island on Saturday “totally demolished” most of the island but that “we may hit it a few more times just for fun,” during his interview Saturday with NBC News.

During his interview Saturday with NBC News about the Iran War, President Trump suddenly attacked Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who has sent counter drone systems and experts to the Middle East to assist combating the threat of Iranian one-way attack drones, saying “I’m surprised that Zelensky doesn’t want to make a deal. Tell Zelensky to make a deal because Putin’s willing to make a deal.” Trump added that Zelensky was “far more difficult to make a deal with” than Russian President Vladimir Putin over efforts to end the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

In a first, the Iranian-backed group Kataib Hezbollah, not to be confused with Lebanese Hezbollah, has targeted the Camp Victory Base in Baghdad with FPV drones, albeit with little effect. Kataib Hezbollah is an Iranian-backed Iraqi group that is nominally subordinate to the larger Popular Mobilization Front (PMF).

Speaking about Iran’s newly selected Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, President Trump questioned whether he was still alive, telling NBC News, “I don’t know if he’s even alive. So far, nobody’s been able to show him,” adding that, “I’m hearing he’s not alive, and if he is, he should do something very smart for his country, and that’s surrender,” though calling the news of his death “a rumor.”
