The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has just issued a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) for the entirety of the Maiquetía Flight Information Region (SVZM), which covers all of Venezuela and a large section of the Southern Caribbean, stating that operators should exercise caution while in the region due to “THE WORSENING SECURITY SITUATION AND HEIGHTENED MILITARY ACTIVITY IN OR AROUND VENEZUELA. THREATS COULD POSE A POTENTIAL RISK TO AIRCRAFT AT ALL ALTITUDES, INCLUDING DURING OVERFLIGHT, THE ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE PHASES OF FLIGHT, AND/OR AIRPORTS AND AIRCRAFT ON THE GROUND.” The NOTAM goes into effect on November 21, 2025 at 17:43 and ends on February 19, 2026 at 23:59.

U.S. Air Forces Southern (AFSOUTH), also known as the Twelfth Air Force, has published photos of yesterday’s flight along the coast of South America, near Venezuela, Guyana, and Suriname, by a pair of B-52H “Stratofortress” Long-Range Strategic Bombers assigned to the “Bomber Barons” of the 23rd Bomb Squadron, 5th Bomb Wing, from Minot Air Force Base in North Dakota, as part of Operation Southern Spear. During the flight, the B-52s were supported by a KC-135 “Stratotanker” Aerial-Refueling Tankers from MacDill Air Force Base and F/A-18E/F Super Hornets from several squadrons embarked aboard the USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN-78).

A large explosion and resulting fire has occurred onboard the Panamanian-flagged bulk cargo vessel, One Henry Hudson, currently docked at the Port of Los Angeles after arriving recently from Tokyo, with several crewmembers missing as hundreds of firefighters and fireboats from the Los Angeles and Long Beach Fire Departments, along with the U.S. Coast Guard, battle the blaze and attempt to evacuate the remaining crew believed to be onboard the One Henry Hudson.

FORTE10, a U.S. Air Force RQ-4B “Global Hawk” High-Altitude Surveillance Drone with the 7th Reconnaissance Squadron at Naval Air Station Sigonella, is on its regularly scheduled bi-weekly or so mission over Eastern Europe, near Ukraine and the Russian exclave of Kaliningrad. However, I think this is the first time I have ever seen it avoid Southeastern Europe like that, instead passing over France and Germany to reach Poland.
