Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan, who was praised today in posts by both President Trump and Commerce Secretary Lutnick, was just questioned a few weeks ago by Republican Sen. Ton Cotton (R-AR) for his control and ownership over several Chinese-based companies with links to the Chinese Communist Party and the People’s Liberation Army. After Cotton’s letter, Trump called for Tan’s resignation in a post on Truth Social, before rescinding his call after meeting with him in the Oval Office last Monday.

According to Fox News, 1,700 National Guardsmen in 19 Republican-led states are set to be mobilized in the coming weeks at the request of the Trump Administration, to assist the Department of Homeland Security with its nationwide crackdown on illegal immigration and crime, beginning recently in Washington. Documents obtained by Fox show planning for activations in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, Ohio, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Wyoming – with status effective from August through November. “Guardsmen being mobilized will effectively serve as a support pillar to a sweeping federal interagency effort, while also serving as a visible deterrent force,” said an official from the Defense Department.

On Wednesday, August 20, a federal jury convicted Jinchao Wei (Patrick Wei), a 25-year-old machinist mate with the U.S. Navy, on six counts, including conspiracy to commit espionage, espionage, and unlawful export of, and conspiracy to export, technical data related to defense articles in violation of the Arms Export Control Act and the International Traffic in Arms Regulations. Charges stem from August 2023, when Wei was arrested by the FBI for sending extensive details and photographs of his ship at the time, USS Essex (LHD-2), including information about weapons systems aboard the ship, to a Chinese intelligence officer on social media who was pretending to be a naval enthusiast working for a shipbuilding company in China. In exchange for the information, Wei was paid $12,000 over roughly 18 months. Wei is expected to be sentenced on December 1.
