The International Atomic Energy Agency’s (IAEA) Board of Governors voted this morning in favor of a resolution which finds Iran in violation of its nuclear non-proliferation obligations, the first resolution passed by the IAEA against Iran in over 20 years, since 2005. The resolution, which was put forward by the United States, Britain, France and Germany, passed easily, by a vote in favor by 19 of the 35 countries on the Board of Governors, with the only countries to vote against the resolution being Russia, China, and Burkina Faso.

Following this morning’s resolution by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), which found Iran in violation of its nuclear non-proliferation obligations, Iran has now stated it will reconsider its cooperation with the IAEA as well as a potential withdrawal from the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT).

The Iranian Foreign Ministry and the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) have announced in a joint statement the construction of a new uranium enrichment facility “in a secure location” as well as “other measures” which are being planned by the AEOI. This announcement comes in response to today’s resolution passed by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), which found Iran officially in violation of its nuclear commitments for the first time since 2005.

Viswashkumar Ramesh, a 40-year-old from the U.K. is reported to be the only survivor from this morning’s crash of Air India 171 in Ahmedabad. He was sitting in seat 11A at the time of the crash, amazingly suffering only minor injuries and waking up to search-and-rescuers. His brother, who was seated next to him is still missing, presumed dead by authorities in India.

The Office of U.S. Senator Alex Padilla has released a statement after he was detained earlier by federal law enforcement officers in Los Angeles, with Senator Padilla claiming that he was only trying to ask Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem a question during a press conference, when he was forcibly removed by federal agents, forced to the ground and handcuffed. The statement adds that Senator Padilla has since been released from custody.
