Following the looting of at least 23 businesses last night alongside significant vandalism on both Sunday and Monday, Mayor Karen Bass has declared a local emergency as well as a curfew for a small area of Downtown Los Angeles. The curfew, which is expected to last several nights, is in place for a one-square mile area of downtown near city hall and the federal building from 8:00pm Tuesday until 6:00am Wednesday. “Law enforcement will arrest individuals who break the curfew, and you will be prosecuted,” said Mayor Bass.

A large group of demonstrators led by faith leaders are in a standoff with local and federal law enforcement, as well as the National Guard, outside of the federal building in Downtown Los Angeles, less than 10 minutes from the start of the curfew.

Downtown Los Angeles is now under curfew, as the standoff between demonstrators and law enforcement supported by the National Guard continues in front of the Federal Building.

Additional officers from the LAPD, LASD, and CHP have arrived over the last few minutes in Downtown Los Angeles, and appear to be preparing to make arrests for those violating the curfew ordered earlier by Mayor Bass.

Hundreds of police in riot-gear have surrounded and are beginning to advance on a group of several hundred demonstrators who remain in front of the Federal Building in Downtown Los Angeles, in violation of the curfew ordered earlier by Mayor Bass.
