The Panagyurishte Gold Treasure [Thracian]
The objects were discovered in 1949 during the communist period of Bulgaria, three of the rhytons contain images of the great mother goddess โ Cybele. However while in the custody of its various caretakes up to the collapse of communism, the treasure has bizarrely lost weight (suspected is theft or even substitution): "On 10.12.1949 according to information from the District People's Council of Panagyurishte โ5378/10.12.1949, shows that in storage at the CCA, the total weight of the treasure was 7,500 kg... The difference in the weight of the treasure from 10.12.1949 to 02.11.2012 is 1307.3g (one kilogram three hundred and seven grams and three milligrams)." (Tsvetankov, 2013)
