"In May 2010 the news media portrayed the fiftieth anniversary of the birth control pill as a cause for jubilation and celebration. A front-page story in USA Today touted the pill as groundbreaking, a symbol of women’s rights, even the catalyst for the women’s liberation movement. Research on physical complications and other side effects of the pill, as well as the World Health Organization’s classification of the pill as a group 1 carcinogen back in 2005, were down played, discredited, or completely ignored by USA Today and other major media outlets... Soon after the birth control pill burst onto the scene in 1960, Hollywood began to produce many a film that represented the changes of attitude toward sexual morality."

The Knights of the Golden Circle

Originally founded in 1854 by physician George W. L. Bickley (photo bottom right) of Cincinnati. The K.G.C. was a secret pro-slavery expansionist group whose objective was to found or reclaim the plantation based society that was the greater Caribbean, a society that would unite under the Southern banner against growing Yankee abolitionist hostility. What originally started as a pro America organization of expansion quickly became a Southern Nationalist group with the rise of growing sectionalism within the country. During the American Civil War, some Southern sympathizers in the Union or Northern states, such as Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, and Iowa, were accused of belonging to the K.G.C.. As a result, by 1863 the organization got rebranded as the Order of the American Knights/Sons of Liberty with its goals changing entirely revamping itself to fight against the Yankee war effort by discouraging enlistments, resisting the draft, and shielding deserters.
