The Nijmegen Helmet is an Γ©lite cavalry helmet found in the Waal river in 1915, near its eponymous Dutch city. A name scratched into the cheek suggests it may have been owned by someone called Marcianus.
Why the helmet was in the river is not known, it may have been thrown in as a sacrifice, or may simply have been lost.
