Mira gestorum" is a line from the Latin hymn Ut queant laxis, which is also known as Hymnus in Ioannem. The hymn is a tribute to John the Baptist, and the line translates to "the wonders of your deeds".
The hymn was written in Horatian Sapphics by Paulus Diaconus, a Lombard historian from the 8th century. In the 11th century, Guido D'Arezzo used the hymn to name the sounds of the diatonic scale of Dó. The word "Ut" was replaced with "Dó" to make it easier to sing with a vowel ending. The note "Si" was added by taking the initials of the words "Sancte" and "Ioannes".
