Prior to 1905, this type of torture was practiced in China. The victim was tortured by cutting or severing the flesh with a very sharp knife. They usually began by cutting out the eyes. This blinded the victim and prevented them from seeing the torture itself, which put a great deal of psychological stress on them. Then the ears, lips, nose, fingers and toes and huge chunks of flesh were cut off. This was done over a period of more than three days.
