National Socialism, Fascism and Freemasonry
An interview by "Freemason insider" specifically named nationalists Mussolini, Hitler and Franco for their persecution of freemasonry (express.co.uk). He explained, "the public... didn't like Freemasons because we stand for tolerance and freedom..." and indeed liberalism and secularism are very freemason. 33rd Degree Freemason Alain Bernheim called it "the most difficult period in its history". A map from 1935 identified Freemasonry as leading the revolutions all over Europe, the focus was particularly anti-monarchy; a Vichy France poster showed Freemasonry as a wild animal, a vehicle of chaos; a photo can be seen of an advertisement for an anti-Masonic exhibition organized by the Belgian league "L'Epuration," in Brussels (1941). The Grand Lodges in Germany dissolved under pressure wrote Bernheim, but the "Symbolic Grand Lodge of Germany in Exile" was opened in Jerusalem in March 1934. The Lodge declared war on National Socialism as an enemy of Freemasonry.
