We have shared our experiences and lessons from the rural women's Economic Empowerment and Community of practice led initiatives.
Giving attention and recognition for the local knowledge, Skills, innovation and co-creation of technologies with the local communities is more practical and applicable in improving the production and livelihoods of the rural women's. Access to finance, land, technologies and full autonomy of decision making have been among the main topics covered to improve food and nutrition systems. Development Expertise Center (DEC), in partnership with UN Women and through the Empowerment of Migrant Returnees and Women Migrant Workers Project, visited two self-help groups (SHGs) comprising 17 women migrant returnees in Akaki Kality Sub-City ; part of the many SHGs being established by the organization. These women have successfully launched their own small businesses: one group producing injera and bread, and the other engaged in Baltina production. Both groups received startup support from the project, with working spaces provided by the government.
